I've had a bent aluminum wheel repaired before and it was never right after. The guy who repaired is one of the better ones to. So you're better off with not repairing it unless you can keep the rim on the back of the car.

Yeah, I decided to buy one. It was only $50 more than a repair and it's more of a sure thing, based on stories from several of you.

Thank you all for helping me figure things out!

I haven't read any of the comments posted yet but in California they set a certain amount of money aside in the budget for this kind of thing.

Get the mile marker number, what lane number it was, date and time of incident, conditions, speed and it wouldn't hurt to get pictures of the hole itself.

Get all receipts of the amount of the repair, parts etc and get a claim form from the state that you're in. It takes some time but it's worth it when you finally get your check.

Get an alignment of course an you want to do it right. Ultimately they just hope you go away and don't do anything but when you have all the evidence on your side it's hard to dispute. Tell them you even have a witness if necessary.

Yeah, it was in a downtown area, I think it's significantly harder to get money out of the city than it would the state. I'll still try though.

I am guessing CA doesn't have as many potholes as states in regions with frost heaves and snow.  MI couldn't afford to do that...I don't think.  They cant even repair the potholes, so getting money for rims seems like a longshot to me here.

According to a recent newspaper article, my chances are 1 in 7.

SOOOOO! Amazingly my tires were still OK! (the guy said on the phone "unfortunately for me I can't sell you any tires). The dealership decided to try and air them up and they hold air just fine! So at the end of the day I have $160 for a new front wheel, the rear wheel only had a slight dent so that was straightened, both were aligned (that came to $259). So far the car drives great!

So I guess these Eagle RSA2's having carbon fiber sidewalls is actually good for something other than high tire cost. Which by the way my dealer seemed to have a great price on these, Discount tire priced these for me at $300, Ford Dealer priced them at $240 a piece.

The best news is, this didn't cut into my mod-budget as badly as I thought it would!
