Interested in peoples opinions of Chicago.

I just got call from one of my ETM's that has been bugging me about coming to his region--he has opening for a Regional Technical Manager that would be responsible for Mercy Hospital system in Chicago.

Dad says it's a whole lot better than where I am in PA.

Chicago has an entire slew of healthcare facilities & world renowned specialties.

I would think it'd be a wise move for the field you've defined.

Although cost of living is pretty steep, and couple it with all the crooked politics, it could make it challenging in areas not so desirable.

Yeah; was looking at it--apparently the cost of living is less than what I have here in West Chester; I'm comfortable now money wise.

The hospital is at 50/90 by some little island.

Not sure I would want to live "in the city" but instead the burbs.

Is commuting into Chicago a pita ass by car? I don't fancy the trains--did that for a year with Philadelphia and I hated it. I don't like being bound by a "schedule".

I've only been to Chicago by way of the airport--never really ventured into the city.

Travel into the City, from the 'burbs, is most precarious by means of the Stevenson Expressway (I-55).

Other routes are 'tolerable'.

Maybe I'm biased because I grew up 12 miles west of the loop, but I think Chicago is the best city. I've traveled all over and have been to LA, New York, and Philly. Chicago has everything those cities have, and everything they don't. Driving in the city is great at night when traffic is light. Otherwise the CTA is top notch. Coming from the burbs I take the train whenever I can. It usually takes the same amount of time as the car. But at least you can relax on the train. And during high volume times there's a train every few minutes.
