I just had them replaced on 9/30/13 while I was still under warranty. Hopefull they have some type of parts warranty on them. I can't believe they started in less than 6 months. If they will cover them again I'm going to push for the SE tails without the chrome.

Even if your BTB warranty is expired, maybe the warranty on the part (a separate thing) will cover the replacement parts.... It;s a known issue and I seem to remember a Ford TSB on the problem.... MJ and DJE will have direct experience with this issue.  There are options. Hopefully they'll chime in.

I replaced mine with red surround for about $300.  Couldn't be happier with them.  (The dealer told me Ford would only put the original equipment back on.)

If they warranty the parts and it keeps happening this quickly ill gladly let them keep changing them out. You would think they would eventually get sick of replacing them.

It's grey plastic underneath the chrome. I got my reds at tascaparts.com  Easy swap job.

If you had time to press it.... could ultimately get red w/o chrome from them just to stop the constant replacement... BTW, if you talk to them you don't use a pressure washer on the car (tails), right... hint, hint

I had mine replaced a few years ago, and they are showing signs of peeling again.  Dave sent me his old taillights and I am going to try to replace the chrome on them.  I attempted using chrome tape, but the curves on the taillights won't allow the tape to contour without lines or cutting.  I am going to try chrome paint, but I haven't tried it yet. I've been a bit slow on spending about $100.00 for the high quality chrome paint and I'm still in the process of figuring how to either mask the lights or get them apart to paint the chrome trim.

Get chrome replacements & slap some PlastiDip glossifier on?  I think you can sand the chrome off, then prime & paint.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I really prodded the dealer here to go for the reds but it was a no go even after 2X's replacement. One is peeling very slightly again so it will be my 3rd set.

Sorry to hear than man.
Seems like it's a "war of attrition"... You would think a third grader could do the $math... I guess most folks just go away as Ford anticipates which, of course, continues the policy.

I am not sure that I want to use PlastiDip, and I am finding the chrome that hasn't peeled is fairly difficult to remove without scratching the plastic underneath. I think one reason the chrome is peeling is because it doesn't adhere properly to the plastic. I am finding the plastic is very, very smooth, so there is nothing for the chrome to "grip"...I'm thinking that maybe doing the finally sanding with 2000 grit MAY give the chrome paint something to grip without being noticable once the paint is applied.  I would love to talk to someone that has used the high line chrome paint, just for some hints on applying it.

I'm on my third set and they are starting to peel again. The last time I also tried to get the dealer to replace with the lower level all red ones, but Ford would not allow a replacement with a part that was not original.

Ford must have gone after their vendor.  I can't imagine them taking the hit for this.  There may be hundreds of trashed sets of tail lights out there.  Maybe thousands!
