Ford EcoBoost Reliability - Better Info

I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that made the differences between cars clearer. So a few years ago I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to track cars closely as they age.

We've had excellent participation by Ford owners. But our information would be even better with more owners involved, so I'm grateful that one of the mods here, bpd1151, encouraged me to post this thread about the survey.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, following the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for Fords, for free. I'll share results for the most popular EcoBoost-equipped Ford models in this thread after each update.

Which raises the question--which Fords and Lincolns are most popular among active members of this forum?

QuickSilver

Hmmm, 30 reads by members here and no replies yet, Im sensing some reluctance to join the movement?  Or is it maybe the members as a collective already feel like we gather this data to be discussed and shared among the active membership. Which "Raises the question" what would happen to the data you would gather from the members? Who would it be shared with and for what reasons? To me it seems harmless enough to gather reliabili stats but maybe I haven't thought it all the way thru??

The thing is, there is not much reason to post a reply. Just click on the link the OP provided and do your part to help the automotive community.

Well stated.

Participating in the survey is of course, completely optional, but doing so, could lay the foundation for future improvements in many different categories.

Especially since the SHO will no longer be being assembled in Chicago.

It's transfer to another facility (FRAP in MI.) coupled with accurate, or at least more participant surveys having been completed, would likely bode well for implementing changes / improvements.

If that website is to have meaning the site needs to grow... we all should join.  I looked...  90,000 members and only 27 Taurus owners this morning... The site looked very useful and it's free if you answer a few questions about your car...doing so is important to the database there.

I'd also like to be able to select the SHO.... that is to say the sub model (trim) when searching about a car.

We only provide information through the site--not to any third parties.

We know which cars have the EcoBoost engines from the powertrain selection. This is done when first responding to the survey, or through My Garage.

I broke out EcoBoost stats in the set of results currently shown on the site, but think I won't be doing this with next week's update. In many cases we have higher reported repair frequencies for the EcoBoost cars, but few if any of the reported repairs involve the powertrain. So showing higher repair frequencies for these cars could be misleading. I don't know what causes the difference, but it doesn't appear to be the engines.

I forgot to clear up one thing. We might have 27 responses for a particular year. But across all model years we have 759 Tauri signed up.

Thanks... Even though relevance is by year/model/generation.  The site did ask me to declare the model and drivetrain as you said... but I didn't see a way to search those particulars.. any ideas? TIA

On the pages for the Taurus the information is grouped by powertrain. Searching for "turbo" on the page should find the relevant groups.

We've updated our stats to reflect owner experiences through the end of 2013.

I did look at the stats for the EcoBoost alone, and they generally weren't much different than those for the regular V6. So I ended up re-combining the samples.

I'll take another look with the next set of stats. More EcoBoost cars would help.

The stats for the Taurus, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2013 Taurus: 43, moderate
2012 Taurus: 25, low, very small sample size
2011 Taurus: 42, moderate
2010 Taurus: 70, high

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2011 Taurus: 64, < 1
2010 Taurus: 42, < 1

We'll have further updates in May and in August. The more owners participate, the more comprehensive and precise these will be.

Our reliability stats for the Taurus now include owner experiences through March 31, 2014, making them nearly a year ahead of other sources.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2011 Taurus: 55, moderate
2010 Taurus: 72, high

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

2011 Taurus: 66, < 1
2010 Taurus: 46, < 1

Thank you, once again, everyone who has been helping. Next update in August.

I signed up and have to say it is a fun site to navigate through. Interesting seeing the real world results of some cars. Comments are also fun. ;)
