SHO Engine Cover

When I returned from my test run today, I decided to pop the hood and disconnect the battery to reset my TPMS again.  When I opened the hood, I could hardly believe the heat!
I took a look at the engine cover and discovered it was jammed with insulation!  Yeah, I never took my engine cover off yet.  But now I am thinking about taking it off and leaving it off.  Does anybody see a problem of running with out an engine cover on?  I don't.  I think would be a big relief for dissipating heat.

After thought-Remove insulation and cut vents in.

geswek

All that cover does is fall on the engine during a fire--that's it, its made of material that is supposed to extinguish a fire; has absolutely no other purpose.

Feel free to remove as you see fit.

BPD has vents, and I'm doing vents in the next couple months; at least once I get the car tuned my vents will be next on list.

I'm pretty sure he had them cut them out with the cover on so he could keep it on car--think I remember seeing that in one of his photos.

The also serves as noise suppression also. But there no harm in removing from engine. I alway take mine off when I go to the track.

You're right; I also took them off regardless on v8 diesels because I liked the sound. :)

Not sure what v6 twin turbo would sound like without it.

Hah, guys and I were talking about the "blow" valve on PS of engine--one pointed at our firewall that gives us that engine sound. I told them, lets chop it off and put a BOV--of course I'm completely kidding! I do not want a BOV on my car.

See 4doors vent to atmosphere factory BOV how to.

Does not work; he and I have completely different blow offs--mine is on PS and it's a huge freaking cone thing. It has to be like 2" OD or some crap like that.

Actually you have the blow off valves that I have AND you have the noise maker on the throttle body.
My write up will work for the SHO. :)

I think I'll pull the cover off tomorrow.  If it's a little louder that's okay.  I like the engine sound.  It's loud exhaust I don't care for.  I just think it keeps the engine compartment way too hot.

Hey Geswek, I meant maybe cutting vents in the actual cover itself.  Once I get it off, I'll take a look to see if it might be feasible.  I don't know though because I think with out all that insulation, it would melt.

I took my cover off within a week of owning the car and it hasn't gone back on yet, heck it can't go back on!!!!

That's too much work for me -- I can't get my nails dirty. LMAO

I'll let Livernois deal with it when I get the turbo's done.

You can do that -- I'm almost 99% sure BPD as them cut holes in his so that his hood vents could breathe.

bpd does not have holes in his engine cover...his is a one off custom carbon fiber engine cover. And I don't think he wanted holes in it, as it is one of the really sharp things for use at car shows.

Correct Mark..... NO HOLES IN MY ENGINE COVER.

There ARE however holes in my engine hood..... and yes, those are 100% functional.

Yeah, and if I could decide what color to make the vents, I would have vents in my hood...but geeesh, it's taken me years to figure out what gauges I wanted...
