The Typhoon makes a HUGE difference in the sound.

I'll be finding out tomorrow when the FedEx guy gets here.  I saw the temps you reported.  I might have to throw the stock box back in if I'm tracking.  But the other 99% of the time I hope to enjoy the "noise".

I have been running the k&n typhoon for a while. The sound and the looks is what sold me over the airaid. I have no experience with airaid so im not gonna s*** on them.

Regarding temps, it does heat soak I will admit. If it's in motion I see equal temps if not 2-5 degrees hotter than what the car says it is outside.

The summer was the worse. I refused to let my car idle for more than a standard red light cause those temps just shot up.

Truefully I have no insight to the stock box as I didn't have my obd2 reader and torque app then.

Long story made short.......im definitely willing to trade a few degrees of heat soak for the look and SOUND of the k&n typhoon. Ive had it on for a year or more and have my stock box in storage. Ive had no desire to change it back.

Side note. If we could figure out a way to better seal the intake I think it would help the soaking. I liked the "snorkel" some people did on other intakes to have access to colder air supply. If we could somehow incorporate that into the typhoon it would be awesome.



As for the Hennessey bashing.....as this board's 1 and only Hennessey you guys owe me beers for trashing my "expensive name" =P

But really dont spend money on the Hennessey name. It has lineage but not on our platform.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Since I owned an AirAid and have a custom CAI that I built myself, I thought I'd chime in.  One advantage I have with my Flex is my Carriage Works Grille which allowed me to remove all the restrictive plastic stock grille backing. More air naturally gets to my radiator, and can directly get to the filter area. I have a 170 Deg T-stat installed, and it has a factory Traileer Tow package.  Flex's also have larger radiators and don't have the overheating issues that seem to occur in 2010-2012 SHO's.

My custom CAI is a RotoFab "J" pipe that is similar to the pipe on the K & N in shape, but I added extra piping where it attaches to the stock system and reversed the bend, so my filter is farther into the fender area.  I have used a couple different cone filters and have always covered them with a K & N filter cover (pre-filter).  I also made a heat shield out of plastic that  also works to route cool air from the grill and the opening above it towards the filter area.  This is one of the issues I see with the K & N in that the shield is positioned on the wrong side of the front air inlet.





As for the AirAid, I bought it when they had a super deal +$50. rebate. I tested it for a couple days and found my engine temps ran several degrees hotter, and IAT temps didn't cool down nearly as fast as with my custom CAI. This I attribute to the design of the AirAid Filter, which seems to sit directly in front of the front cool air inlet to the filter, and doesn't allow air to directly flow into the filter.

The system 4DR used before he parted out his Mods and sold his Flex, also came from AirAid.  They sell a "Universal Kit" that has  pipe that you cut and piece together with connectors ( like I did with mine) that allowed him to extend the filter downward into the fender area behind the headlamp. After going from Airaid to K&N Typhoon..then got rid of the hot pipe..then replaced with a 90 degree 3.5 Airaid U build it tube.Then replaced the K&N with a 7'' S&B powerstack.I prefer my S&B filters over K&N for overall quality and filter construction. A simple light test, showed more covering on the S&B filter..Plus filters better than K&N merely b/c they use more layers of cotton gauze, 8 vs. 4-6 of k&n.I also noticed lower IAT's with my set up..especially after relocating the iat sensor above to the right,, away from the fan wash.
