Hello everyone !
Just thought I would tell out to all of you.
I just purchased a 2011  Lincoln MKS EcoBoost.
And I am looking forward to doing some mods.
Nothing too crazy ! My wife and I are retired and want
Do some traveling with the MKS. But would like to
Get a little more out of it. And to pick up the gas mileage if
That's possible.  Any ideas ? Thank you in advance
For any help.
By the way, I am from New England.
And will not be afraid to drive it in the winter.
I have been into performance cars for
Quite awhile. I use to race the older Fords
  Anyway, looking forward to discussing
Mods.

Welcome!

Even though people report to me that they achieve better fuel economy with my tunes I question the testing and experimental variables ...id love to take credit but I know how economy is achieved

Late model cars run perfect air fuel ratios all the time unless your 02 sensors are faulty. So the only ways to gain is to run the car leaner in closed loop which is not viable because it would increase egt's

You can run a bit leaner at wot and delay fuel enrichment but honestly the stock tune runs very lean until about 4500 rpm so you can't take that philosophy much further and also even if you lean the commanded air fuel ratio you are still using more fuel because the load is much higher . Example 12:1 afr is still more fuel used at 15 psi boost than 11:1 afr at 10 psi boost but honestly you don't drive at wot that much anyway relative to your total commute

The best thing for fuel economy is to drive smoothly and light pedal inputs ....tuning companies love to report higher economy but I question that because of lambda or afr readings

Oem calibrations have a lot of R and D invested in them to maximize mpg because that goes a long way in selling cars...

I often tell people they will get less fuel economy with my tunes because they will most likely drive the car harder because it's addictive. But I'm the oddity and don't depend on total tunes sold ...

Food for thought....enjoy your Lincoln and the forum !!

Thank you for the reply !
Well I was hoping the tune would advance the timing a bit as I would use 91 or 93 octane and that should give the engine a bit more
response as well as better fuel economy. Of course, your right about the right foot getting heavier with more performance.
I will have to look at your tunes. thank you

Well you are correct in the sense that high octane fuel should in theory allow a bit more spark advance so the idea is that you will gain a little more part throttle power which will require LESS pedal to get you to the speed you desire but if you have ever looked at a stock data log in these cars they are almost always adding spark at part throttle and you will often see spark advance in the high 30 to low 40 range....so there really isn't much room to add spark to that.....and you have to be careful because you are already running lean at part throttle so advancing spark at 14.1 afr makes it easy to get spark knock

Thank you for that info. I guess I need to rethink how these new cars function with an ecu commanding their inputs with a closed loop system.
My other cars were allot easier to modify as I adjusted the A/F, timing, etc....
there was more room for improvement as those old 390's and 427's were not controlled by an EEC.
                    Thanks again !

No problem...I'm partial to new technology but I believe this is the golden age for cars...right now we are in it and I love it

Mks 3.5 liter v6 350-400hp stock and tuned and 25 mpg highway heated and cooled seats that will massage you among all the other crazy stuff and on 87oct fuel ...will go 150mph and whisper quite and run a road course way better than a muscle car...basically no compromise .....we are used to it and expect it today

Ask people in 1970 or 1979 what they think about that

Your spot on with that !   Cannot compare the old super cars to today.
But, you can't compare the 79 to 70 cars. Big difference !
By the way, to prove your point even further. I had a 69 Mustang and I yanked out the 428 put in a 427 and went racing.
12.78@ 108 mph. Changed out the carburator for a 600 cfm installed 3:08 gears and was thrilled to get 16 mpg on the highway !!!

Welcome to the community, Ken, I see AJP already has you to a running start LOL.  As always, I advise getting maintenance under control prior to performance modifications :)

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!
