Honestly... I gave up cleaning the soot from my tail pipes.... I clean the outside of the tips to keep them sparkling...

Do you think adding that corn in the mix is playing a role?  Z

You mean the factory tips aren't black inside?

In all seriousness, I stopped washing the insides of mine also.  The factory tune is pig rich and dumps fuel with any poke of the throttle it seems.

One of my best friends has a white Focus ST.  He can't keep his back bumper clean because of the high amounts of soot.

I see nothing "eco" about these motors.  "Boost" yes, "eco" no.

Real question is, does the extra oxygenation prevent soot from being created during combustion, because as with common rail diesel systems, this is a real problem and an environmental/health hazard.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

True! But I think they stepped up there game a bit with the 15my due to there updated PCV System related to Emissions . Z

You have updated valve covers to go along with that system also, correct?

Maybe you're RX catch can system is also helping?  Seems that not ingesting oil could help as well?

@ Sholxgt I do have the updated PCV System related to the TSB,but  only the front clean side oil Separator is installed.
I think the black soot seems less eminent since having the Meth install. Z

This problem isn't just with Ecoboost, it's seems to be an issue across the board with DI gas applications.

Yes

"No sooting flames with E85
• Ethanol has a single boiling
point of 78.3°C, whereas
gasoline has a range up to
200°C. Thus E85 vaporizes
more readily after impingement
on the piston.
• Ethanol is oxygenated which
facilitates combustion of rich
regions without making soot."

Good point!  I see a lot of NA Kia's with blackened rears as well.

I've owned two diesels, so I'm not opposed to soot.  Just seem strange on a gas motor.  If one of my EFI cars were belching this much black smoke, I would find a better tuner.

GDI = diesel common rail technology.  Same issues.

X20000 on not bothering to clean the inside of the tips.  I've contemplated simply cleaning the inside of them and then painting them with a high temp flat black so I don't have to see shiny spots in them anymore.
