Changed all my fluids over to Amsoil

And, I'm a bit sore from being under the car all day, lol.  In all honesty it only took me a so long because I had never done this drivetrain before.  Knowing what to do will make next time much faster.  Mostly it was pretty easy, but I kept getting rained on, and the PTU sucks.  There is a special place in hell reserved for the folks who put the plug there with all that stuff in the way.

Car is new to me and its a 2014 MKS Ecoboost with 61k miles.  I just wanted to make certain that everything is well maintained.

Engine oil was easy, and it looked great.  Used Amsoil Signature Series 0W-30.

Trans was moderately time consuming, I just had to look up what to do.  Confused at first by the weird drain plug and couldn't find the trans dipstick.  Blew my mind when I found out you need to pull the air intake box. Fluid was deep reddish, so I said "hey this looks good."  Opened up the Amsoil Signature Series ATF and said "Holy crap, that is REALLY red."

Rear diff was easy.  Used an oil suction gun that another user  recommended.  Decent amount of material on the plug, fluid looked reddish amber color, but still clear, so hurray.  Filled with Amsoil Synthetic 80W-90 Gear Lube.  Took a little over a quart.  Tube slipped out of the fill hole and flung toward me.  Ate some gear oil that flew in my mouth.  4 stars out of 10 would not recommend.

PTU is a nightmare.  Got the plug out no prob, with some wobble extensions, recommended by another user.  Getting a tube into that hole... Why Ford?  Why would you do this to me?  Couldn't get to it from the wheel well.  Cat and o2 sensor in the way.  Had to go under the car and snake my hand up the side of the PTU, and feed the tube in a fraction of an inch at a time.  The oil pan is hot, the PTU is hot, everything your hand touches is hot.  I was afraid of the tube slipping out and having to redo that, so once I got it in, I went crazy with electrical tape to hold it in place.  I would draw out fluid with the suction gun, disconnect it from the hose and drain it into my pan, reconnect it to the hose, repeat.  It worked, the hose never fell out.  The fluid was dark amber colored, and still clear enough to see through.  Didn't measure it but I got several ounces out, kept pulling suction on the tube till it was cleared out, then filled it up with Severe Gear 75W-140.  Note: When that stuff is hot, it comes out fairly easy.  Putting the new fluid in at like 80 degrees was SOOO SLOOOOW.  Took forever to push through the small tube.

So I ended my weekend, sore, with gear oil and rocks caked into my hair, and the taste of Amsoil in my mouth.  It's ok, because when I got it all buttoned back up, it made it taste like victory.

Looks like you picked a good vehicle to own, since the fluids looked in pretty good condition!  Good on ya getting it all done :thumb:

Yeah, the history on the car was weird, but in a good way.  It's a 2014, but when it was new it wasn't sold till October 2015.  So the previous owner put 61k miles on it in less than 2 years.   They traded it in at the same dealer they originally bought it from, so the salesperson I spoke to was the same one that sold it to the original owner, and then took it in on trade.  Said the lady who owned it worked for the State of Florida's agricultural department and did a ton of driving around the state. So the miles are almost all easy going highway trips.

Almost better to buy used when the car has a lot of miles/year on it, that seems to be holding up good for a lot of folks.  Great to have such a narrow "chain of custody".

I think the loaded MKS models were a tough sale for Lincoln dealers.  Similar story here.  Mine sat in the showroom at the dealership my wife worked at for almost a year.  Bought by an older lady who owned it for a little over 2 years (28,000 miles) before trading it back in to another dealership in the same network of dealers.

Mine then went 6 months or so even on the used lot.  Just not a well known or liked car apparently.  SHO's sell like hotcakes, but no one seems to want the Lincoln version.  Sad, since the Lincolns do have a nicer interior, better warranty, and Lincoln owners are taken better care of.  Granted, the SHO's are quite a bit better looking.

Great job on changing all fluids!  Very smart move!  I had mine changed at 30,000 miles with free synthetic lubes I got from the dealership.  Am now nearing 50,000 miles and will change them all again with Amsoil soon and then probably consider them good to go for another 50,000.

Curious, how does the car seem with the Amsoil transmission fluid?  I've been sticking with Motorcraft for that one fluid for fear of compatibility issues.  Plus, I get the Motorcraft stuff cheap.

Amsoil low viscosity signature series fluid is superior to motorcraft fluid in every way....its meets the fluid spec so there can be no compatibility issues

Motor craft fluid is generic fluid...same as their filter

Highly recommend this neat pump made for gear oil for marine applications. Literally cuts time to change and mess in half!

I haven't noticed any change in the car.  I wasn't really expecting to notice anything with a fluid change.  Plus all the fluids seemed in good shape anyway.  It still seems to run just as well as before.  I did it mostly for the piece of mind of putting something I know for sure is good, into the car.  Since it had 60k I wasn't sure of the condition of all the fluids.

The only weird thing it seems to do, it did before changing fluids.  If I put it in sport and accelerate quickly and let off before it gets to the top of a gear, it seems to refuse to upshift.  It will stay in 3rd at like 3k RPMs while I'm just cruising at a constant speed.  This goes on for like 10-15 seconds before it finally goes into 4th.  (I think it's 3rd and 4th anyway)  Only does it with the shifter in S, and it did that before I changed fluids.

Mine does the same thing.  I'm actually impressed with the programming in S mode.  It basically spans the gap between street and track.  It's holding that gear in case you are going into a turn or are about to hammer it again.  Much appreciated in the mountains.  On downhill sections it will even drop a gear and hang at 4000+ rpm.

Pair S mode with sport setting for the suspension and the MKS is really surprising in the twisties for a BIG girl.

In the city, I stick with regular because I find S to be too aggressive.  If I want to get on it, I drop it in S mode and then put it back in regular as soon as I let off the throttle.  That way it upshifts much sooner.

I thought the S stood for stoplight to stoplight racing mode.  No?
