Hey guys,

So knowing that my car is a performance package edition, things were all cool.

Until I researched more about the differences between the normal SHO and the SHO PP.

It was all cool and clear but I couldnt understand what the "Final Drive Axle Ratio" is.

Can someone please explain to me the differences between the Final drive axle ratio in a normal SHO and the SHO PP?

Please check the screenshot below that I took from ford racing website.

Thanks a bunch !

interesting, me too wants this to be clarified :)

Non-PP SHO's have the 2.77 axle.

PP Equipped SHO's have the 3.16 axle.

Theoretically, the 3.16 axle should be faster.

However once a tune is applied, the differences in axle ratios are non existent.

In fact the Non-PP cars have consistently proven faster at the track. Time and time again.

Plenty of discussion on this previously over the years. Do your research young jedi, or perhaps ask the master SHOdded himself to source some of those prior back-n-forths for you.

Right... But did you mean track as in drag racing? or a normal race track like the Mazda Laguna Seca one?

Sorry for asking just wanted to make sure.

Here;s a good article for ya.  Z   For those still harboring some wild-child hormones, the "12S-SHO Performance Package" ($995) buys 20-inch Eagle F1 Supercar summer rubber, performance brake pads (clamping identical discs), 20-percent-stiffer damping, nine-percent-stiffer rear springs, and a bigger rear anti-roll bar plus a shorter final-drive ratio (3.17:1 versus 2.77:1), and performance tuning of the power steering and AdvanceTrac stability control systems.     http://www.motortrend.com/cars/ford/taurus/2010/2010-ford-taurus-sho-test/

@waelSHO.... Never be sorry for asking.....

Those who have reported being faster, including my own experiences, have been exclusively with drag strip purposes only.

As far as road coursing goes, not enough info on that paradigm, as there are/were not enough of those who do/have road coursed, to provide said comparative data.

Although I suppose, as more late Gen4 SHO owners step up to the road coursing plate (myself included) that data may cometh forth respectively.

You can change effective gearing using the appropriate wherl/tire combo if you wanted to.  Just be sure to update the PCM also.
2007 Ford Edge SEL, Powerstop F/R Brake Kit, TXT LED 6000K Lo & Hi Beams, W16W LED Reverse Bulbs, 3BSpec 2.5w Map Lights, 5W Cree rear dome lights, 5W Cree cargo light, DTBL LED Taillights

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I'm planning on adding a tune from Unleashed Tuning, is there anything specific I should tell him? or would he be able to find out by himself?

I would mention that PO-0020 code prior to ordering the tune.  Z

Oh I definitely have not forgotten the code, I will have it fully inspected and replaced if needed to, then I'll tune the car.
