I was never happy with a razor once they started going past 2-3 blades...till I went old school. The only complaint I have is that I can nick myself up pretty good  with a safety razor :)

That is my worry; I prefer not to cut myself.

TEACH me obi WON!

LOL It takes some trial and error to figure out what the best setting is when you have an adjustable razor. Till then, get some this stuff:

I'm scared!

What if I slice my jugular and kill myself? The world would be without a Storm!

I cut myself only once, and that is when I learned that the less pressure the better with a DE razor. After you learn the technique, it is hard to cut yourself. With Gillete Fusions, you have to press into your skin to get them to cut, with a DE, you glide the hair off... with damn near zero pressure. The pressure created by the weight of a good DE is where you need to start. Then you gently add pressure until you find that happy medium.

I used to use a straight razor...  Have used an electric Norelco variation for many years and have no issues.

Always worth a try.

A little late to the conversation, but I have problems with sensitive skin on my neck when I shave so I put it off too. If find using an electric razor (most convenient) gives me the worst problems. It's tolerable if I am careful with a good razor though and sensitive skin shaving cream. The rest of my face is fine though! Hah!

I can't grow the best beard either. Looks okay after the first week, but after that it looks dumb.

I just shave with whatever the wife has a coupon for that week.
I also must have tough skin because I dont use any cream just warm water and a rasor.

I switched to a Merkur, and I'm never going back to throwing money away on cartridges. DE blades are $1 for 3-5 shaves, instead of $15 for four carts that are designed to dull as fast as possible.  Safety razors are even a better deal than Dollar Shave Club.

I think the brush doesn't matter that much, as long as it is soft enough for you - I'm not paying $80 for a brush!
Using pre-shave and after shave helps reduce burn, and your face will adjust.
Straight razors are very cool and manly, but they have a much steeper learning curve.

Well considering what some people pay on mods, I think a $80 brush that should last you years isn't a bad investment....

WTF are you people talking about?

I use a Gillette Fusion, some Gillette Gel, and a little elbow grease--bam perfect.

Actually, no, I lie, I'm pretty pissed because suddenly I have break out all over left side of my face and I don't know why -- so uncool because my beard is the s***.

same here, although ive found the wilkinson sword 5 blade jobbies seem to hold their sharpness better than fusion.

If ive been lazy and let it grow, the wahl to bring it down to stubble, then quick once over with blade.

The main way to avoid any sort of rash is make sure all the bristles are softened first. Never just shave straight off. Either put a warm wet flannel on your face, or ideally shower or bathe, so that the face has had a good warm/hot soak for at least five minutes. Softens up all the facial hair, opens up the pores, and makes the whole process much easier.

same as above post...I thought my skin was sensitive being fair skinned and all...but you guys are making me rethink this.

Fusion pro glide in the shower with some sort of sensitive skin shaving cream.  Some sort of aftershave balm with SPF built in and I am good to go.

I even shave with and against the grain to get the closest shave which allows me to skip a day shaving!

I normally shave first thing when I get out of the shower and still had issues with irritation...another thing to keep in mind to shave with the "grain" with the way your hair grows in.

I'm still convinced that a Safety razor gives a far better shave then a multi blade one does...just because your more likely to cut too much off (and cause ingrown hairs) with a multi-blade razor then a single one.

OK; the irritation and/or pimples I started developing like 2 weeks ago from my Fusion is starting to piss me the hell off.

Any tricks to get rid of this crap. I'm going to buy a DE and try; I'm noticing my Fusion doesn't cut worth a damn--
