I've read a few articles where a turbo smart wastegate was installed on a ecoboost motor and made substantial gains in the middle of the curve. Has anyone tried installing one..
Have had an Edge owner put one on his 2.0EB, definte sound change, but not sure if there was any resulting power gain. Did the ones you refer to have stock spring rate or higher?
Really dont see how many it would change power or sound...id love to see first hand....the car will target what it is programmed for...torque and dash command guys you should start looging desired tip.
When you change wastegate spring pressure the wastegate duty cycles will need to change to hit the target tip pressures...if they change enough then dtc's will result
There just isnt a need for a part like this..u can make the stock turbos run 20 psi at 2k rpms...if thats not early and fast enough spool i dont know what is....not a good idea to change hardware without software changes in todays cars
If you buy the EPP upgraded turbos we include them as part of the price.
I've read a few articles/forums about these turbo smart wastegates improving the vehicles mid range hp and trq. Although peak numbers really didn't change much on the 2.3 or 3.5 ecoboost engines I've read about. Which is fine with me I'd rather have the power where it's used more often. And with almost any performance mod to these motors I'd datalog and have torrie retune as needed. I'm close to pulling the trigger I'd just like to know if anyone has installed them and what if any issues they had with the install. I've read that the wastegate mounting holes for the F150 needed to be enlarged due to them being too narrow.
This is an article re: TurboSmart on the EB Mustang -

Might be dynos for other model lines, just not as easy to find?
Ive read before about it....its a good upgrade for people that dont know how to tune or a professional that doesn't understand the tuning either
If it makes more power its because its confusing the closed loop boost control system that the ecu employs...and all ecoboost controllers are not the same anyway.
If u get a result then good....but i can assure you its not the right way and your tuning parameters will be out of whack....but most people wont care about that...just like how some people run larger injectors because someone that didnt know what they were talking about told them to do it when there really is a fuel pressure problem....it kind of works but not really.
If your wgdc is at 100% and you are not making the boost you desire and your turbo is capable of that boost then you need a wastegate spring change....if your wgdc is not at 100% and you are not making the boost you desire then adjust the tune to raise wgdc to achieve more boost if you know how.....its really that simple
The fact that we have closed loop electronic boost control means we can do way more with tuning than a hard part change could ever do...but im wasting my breath and that part will be bought anyway
It ranks up there with drilling a hole in your intercooler...maybe not quite that bad
So what do you recommend for more boost across the RPM range?
Tune or new wastegate?

Tune
From just your snap shot , you wgdc during the wot is only about 76% and thats a spike...its in the 60's% mostly....so you want more boost?...there is room for more on that spring
With a good tune should the boost be flatter along the rpm range?
On long gear pulls it slowly loses boost as RPM's rise.

Id have to see more of the log...sometimes it can appear that boost is falling off but in fact it is just getting closer to what you are commanding.....you should log desired tip...then you will know where you are supposed to be boost wise..when your boost spikes at the gear change sometimes it takes a little bit for it to fall where it needs to be...ive been tuning on the boost curve for sometime now i wanted it flat and the same in all gears....you can get damn close through tuning...some limitations are in the controller though...and you can use throttle limiters to smooth outh the curve but that is not desirable for power
There AJPTurbo goes again... :yikes:
I'd love to hear his thoughts on electric turbos LOL

Real electric turbos are cool, i think there are some factory electrically assisted turbos....but those stupid fan things....terrible lol....one guy i worked with put one on his ford probe....i humiliated that guy and he had no choice but to take it off...i car shamed him

I don't know if you guys use datazap but it makes reading and sharing logs pretty easy.

Neat app!
New log with #3 pre-compressor nozzles and a #9 pre-throttle body nozzle.
I should be able to get a bit more boost out of these little compressors.
Strong!
Please explain sir. :)

I will tomorrow ...tired lol and im out datalogging myself lol...i left sabtaj1 hanging to on the log he posted...both You and sabtaj logs are nice
Awe..... AJP, I'm blushing........ Hey grey, we have nice logs.. ;-) Hahahaha
