Title: New guy from Iowa
Post by: ElvenSho on October 02, 2014, 11:43:53 AM
Hello,

I just got a 2011 SHO today. I have had mostly fords since I was 16. I had a 2000 mustang gt with boltons that ran the best of 13.5 but had to sell it to get a family car due to having a baby. I sold it and got a 2014 focus se but that car was too small and boring so here I am after getting a pretty good deal on the trade. My SHO is cpo vehicle and has 53k miles. I will try to post some pics tomorrow or when I have time. I am here to learn about the car and possibly make it even quicker (Not that its slow right now). I have two friends with 08 bmw 535i and 07 lexus is350... have to make sure the ford is ahead haha.

PS: I posted the same at SHOforum.com but it looks like this forum is more active.

Welcome to EBPF! CONGRATS on the purchase of the speedy land yacht and addition to your family.

First thing would be plugs(spf534) and premium gas to control pre-detonation.

Best bang for your buck will be a tune. Many here are putting down 12.7's with just a tune and that gets you a mid 4 second 0-60.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the welcome! Will be getting the plugs over the weekend. Can I just get them at any auto parts store? I have 92 octane with ethanol available for $3.50 per gallon and 93 octane/no ethanol for 4.50 per gallon. Is it worth using the 93 w/o ethanol with the price being a dollar more per gallon? Will it make a difference over the 92? I would rather go with 92 until I get tuned at least.

Hey there!  Glad to see you over here from SHOforum :)  Don't forget to post your pix over here as well, this crowd devours that stuff too!  You might get into the very low 4's or even high 3's with the max tunes for 0-60 times.  I think brucelinc or tss posted a pic of their Aeroforce gauge as proof :D

Hello!

I will post pics in a little bit :). I am sure you have seen it before, its a red Taurus sho, stock! lol

Taurii are rather limited in their visibility in my area, and most of them are the Limited spec.  Until I saw BlackCoyote's SHO, I had seen only one other Gen IV SHO around these parts (and that too tuxedo black, oddly enough)!  So as far as I am concerned, pile it on with pix!!!

The MC plugs are widely available, NGK's may be also.  93 with 10% ethanol is fine, tuners already account for it.  OK to have more octane rather than less.  Would not try to run the 2011 with more than 10% ethanol without serious datalogging.  The 2013+ seem to have the headroom to accomodate at least 25% effectively, FoMoCoSHO has done the most testing so far (wasinger may have also).

Aren't you quicker than the IS out of the gate? Those are nice, lovely cars and sound excellent with a nice exhaust, but I don't recall them being overly quick.
My neighbor has one. I love hearing it drive by. XD

I am in waterloo... I have been to the raceway many times racing my mustang. I will see if I can drop by to meet you and possibly do a stock run :). If not I am always down for meeting SHO people so let me know if you are ever in the area!

I am not sure, I beat him with my mustang by 2-3 cars from 35-120. It is a pretty quick car and my friends think its faster than the 08 535i (not awd). I might give both of them a try if we can find a safe area or at the track.

Where in Iowa are you at? In the Des Moines area I get 93 at the Murphy's in Altoona for what others sell their 91 for. I am NE of Ankeny near Elkhart out in the country.

I am in Waterloo, IA. I think the reason the 93 is so expensive at the Shell gas station is because it contains 0 ethanol. I will just use the 92 octane with up to 10% ethanol and see how that goes. Once I decide to get it tuned I will tune for both also.

Can anyone answer me what PTU is? I been reading lots of threads trying to learn as much as possible and people are changing this oil...

Thank you sir! Might have to look into getting this oil changed next time I am at the dealership since the car has 53k miles. The documents I have only show oil changes throughout the life of the car and a tire change at 45k miles. Seems like this car was reliable for the previous owner. Another question if you guys don't mind... So I also saw that there was few different recalls on the vehicle over time and I know for a fact the dealer did one when they were getting the car certified (the one for rear license plate/or light?). Does that mean that they did not find any issues on the car from the other recalls/tsb's? Should I just go to my local Ford/Lincoln dealer and have them check for all the tsbs/recalls to make sure nothing is wrong? The car drives very well, no issues from what I can tell.

Sorry about all the questions!

Pretty sure the TSB's only get checked if problem is noticed or brought to their attention. Seems some are running into dealers that will not change the PTU fluid, and others scoring pretty reasonable prices to get it done at the dealer. They say the PTU fluid is lifetime, but there's a consensus here to change about every 30k(we care more than they do...lol)

Can't argue that. They do have a somewhat classic look to them.

Did the front last night and will probably do the back in few days to see if I like it. Right now its not too loud and I can live with it but if it gets too loud with the 2nd done I might put it back to stock/front only. Also I hate the idea of having to install the hose back on if have to have warranty work done but will see how it sounds with both done.

Is there any place to get 93 octane near Waterloo?  I live in Wisconsin where the 93 is easily available, but I drive to Deere in Waterloo very frequently so I've used only the 4+ 91 octane tune.  I'd like to see what the 4+x has to offer but its hard purging the 91 from the tank.  I may have a trip to Ankeny in my future for a mid-flight refueling.

Problem with that site is it just says "Premium" which in most of Iowa is 91 octane. So far the only reliable source for 93octane in Iowa that I have found is MurphyUSA. Search their site to see if they have a spot in Waterloo, a lot of them are in WalMart parking lots.
