Still on the fence about this.  I'd have to get Torrie to tune me, as LMS isn't doing any 3 bar tuning with SCT's.

Anything in the under $90 range is good.

When I originally started contemplating a 3 bar, RockAuto had them for less than $80. Shortly after, they went to $83. I guess this is a sign that I should go ahead and place my order!

Ford wants $140 for the OEM.... I personally opted to stay with OEM for fit and concerns over communication with ECU... I bought mine from DEAN NIB for $100... If you can beat that for OEM it's stellar.  AM may work just fine, I'll profess ignorance on that point.

Got some questions about the 3BAR related to the OEM turbos answered from LMS (thanks Dave for asking for me while you were there), This is what Dan said, "The three bar is good for the car because there could be boost spikes above 14.3 that the 2 Bar wouldn't be able to read.  The 14.3 is a best guess.  That number could actually be 14.2-14.5 depending on altitude and climate.  The spread could even be more it's a "floating number".   But, bottom line is that it can read spikes and let the ECU deal with them.  No performance gain, just good practice."

The 2BAR would end in "A" for the lower number.

Sorry guys, it looks like he may have made a mistake on the price. He is checking on it. If it turns out to be correct I should be able to get a few more. I'll let you guys know on Monday. Maybe 5 any more than that could arouse suspicion from his boss, and I don't want to get him in crap.

Just an FYI note of caution... I went to the RockAuto site and looked at the CX2231 (same for all 3.5 trans EBs)  for about $82, but if I search specifically for the 3BAR  using the other part of the number, AA5Z-9F479-B,  the price came up $94.... still a darn good price, but the description and pic of the "B" is not a Ford part... Aftermarket may be fine.

Main point is be very sure you get the AA5Z-9F479-B (3BAR) or equivalent if AM is OK with you,.... and not the AA5Z-9F479-A (the 2BAR)

Just for reference; $145.48 on the FordParts site.

Wait, what? Are you saying that CX2231 merely indicates that the part is a MAP sensor and not necessarily whether it is the 2 BAR or the 3 BAR version? I'm a little confused by the wording "Correct for the MAP sensor... but not the BAR rating...". Please clarify... pretty, pretty please. :)

You are 100% correct in your interpretation... Below is a link to pictures of ShoBoat's 3BAR sensor and the box showing what I mean.... The second number with "B" as last digit is what's important to be sure it's a 3BAR.  The 3BAR sensor I got came in a box exactly like this from Ford.... but like everyone using them has noted... on the sensor it ends in"AB".

Here's pics of my part with the number above, The box with the identifying number, and finally the shipping label from Ford with all this... Hope this clears it up.

Guys, I'm not saying any vendor (or their part) is bad... and Ford created this confusion actually with a system that's hard to understand.  I just don't want folks getting the wrong part...and tuning for it with crazy results.  Definitely get it as cheap as possible. I just saw/had confusion. per my my first post above... Earlier, I just described my findings when I searched trying to be sure it was what folks wanted... and I saw some confusing things and AM 3BAR sensors at RockAuto... http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php?topic=2521.msg38720#msg38720 (http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php?topic=2521.msg38720#msg38720)

Not  trying to change anyone's plans... just thought everyone should know how to obtain and verify they received the correct part.  We all like to be sure of things even if it's just to speed up the process.  ...and we all like cheap!

black99lightning... don't know why not, but now you can easily verify the correct as well as AM vs OEM with the info here when yours arrives.

Joleat... ordering through Unleashed is one way to be sure since Torrie knows what you want.... but sometimes direct communication before ordering is the key... email or call RockAuto if you feel the need.

Rock Auto  accepts returns if you are concerned about getting the wrong part .

Many members have ordered this from them and again NO ONE has got the wrong part from them .  CX2231

Torrie at Unleashed sells them  ...... $130.00 shipped

The 3 bar that Rock Auto , LMS and Unleashed Tuning sell is the EXACT same Ford OEM part . I know of NO aftermarket 3 bar .
Dig elsewhere and no guarantee you'll end up with the correct part .

I was a Parts manager for a Ford dealer for 18 years up till 8 years ago when I purchased a NAPA store that I now run...that being said, the number on the part itself is considered an engineering number. to get the correct "sales part number" you would either cross the engineering number to part number or look up in parts application.

The Ford numbering system is pretty cool. After learning it a good parts person can actually look at a part # and tell first by the basic (middle #) number what the part is and then from the prefix and suffix can tell what vehicle and year the part originally derived from. But it may fit other Ford vehicles going forward and some earlier models if the part replaced the older #.

So cx2231 or better yet aa5z-9f479-b tells me that 9f479 is a map sensor, (every single ford map sensor will have 9f479 as the basic #) and aa5z is a 2011 Lincoln MKT and B would designate what style of part...this must mean the 3-bar Turbcharger boost sensor.

it looks like the aftermarket has some as our supplier, Echlin shows a part#. But more than likely when I order mine it will have the Motorcraft # scratched off. (really!)

Hope this helps...

Hi All
Just looked at the sensors on my 2013 SHO with pp
The sensor upstream of the throttle body is AA5Z-9F479-AB
The sensor mounted in the intake is AA5Z-9F479-CA
So if your numbers are correct the upstream sensor is a 3 bar unit & the one in the intake is the 2 bar unit
Am I correct guys?

I have the same car and added a 3bar sensor and tune, the one by the throttle body is a 3bar map part ends in AB,the one on top of manifold is a 2 bar which ends in CA,which I replaced with a 3 bar, both sensors have the same identical part #.

Post by: BiGMaC on April 26, 2014, 04:39:10 PM
The sensor pre throttle body is called a TIP.... Throttle-body Input Pressure sensor... Not sure what the differences in the part are.... but no apparent need or benefit from changing it.  If it has the same part number as the 3BAR MAP I'd leave it alone.

Don't plan to replace the upstream sensor
Just pointing that it is the same as the 3 bar sensor everyone recommends
That is why I was confused
If you look for a map sensor for a 2013 Taurus SHO you get two part numbers on most sites with no explanation why
Now I know they are listing both the upstream & downstream units
Ordered one from Rock Auto today
sent LMS an email to get an updated tune to work with it
Be 69 years old on the 29th of this month so this is probably the most work I plan to do to my Taurus

Still trying to find out what it takes to Run 100% E85
Would love to be able to use 100+ octane ethanol
Has anyone done it & if so what mods were made
Wonder if larger injectors & higher capacity high pressure pump are required?
Does anyone know the static flow rate of the stock injectors?

Ford Part No. CX2231

Correct for the MAP sensor... but not the BAR rating...Also on the box will be AA5Z-9F479-A or AA5Z-9F479-B  ... and to make it even more confusing Ford printed AA5Z-9F479-AB on them all.... jeez

So from the little bit of research I've done, CX2231 should in fact be a 3 bar. CX2228 is the 2 bar sensor.

Going to order the one from Auto Parts Tomorrow and see how it goes - http://www.autopartstomorrow.com/part_numbers/537477. (http://www.autopartstomorrow.com/part_numbers/537477.)

I'll update the thread this weekend with what they send me.  For $82 shipped, I'll be guinea pig and take one for the team, lol.

The link in your post is dead though but if you go to the home page link ....

http://www.autopartstomorrow.com/ (http://www.autopartstomorrow.com/)    and put cx2231 in the search box the 3bar comes up ....  at  $82.11.

Still a damned good find and they take PayPal .

Someone could .. I think it is simply a demand issue .

Ford uses Bosch for tons of OEM electronics and  is is one of there primary suppliers .
Bosch is an industry leader and has somewhat of monopoly in this arena  , not that it is a bad thing .

Received my 3 bar from Rock auto as well. Someone here told me just make sure the last digit is "B" which verifies it is 3 bar vs 2 bar.

I also just received and loaded today my updated tune for 3 bar. Too much L.A. traffic to test. So I may await a track day at Irwindale to run it hard. Any track days that anyone knows of?

If you don't have the tune adjusted for the 3 bar your car will not run properly.  So you cannot run a 3 bar map without a tune.

Isn't the livernois 3bar $75? I guess you would need their $600 tuner, though.

I haven't checked on other 3bar tuners yet.

FYI - This is still the going price on Rock Auto. The sensor comes in a clear Motorcraft baggie  (shipped in a small Rock Auto box with a small but sufficient amount of bubble wrap)

Hello all,

I recently purchased Motorcrafts 3 bar map sensor from Rock Auto's website and am having difficulty deciding if it is the correct part number or not. The part number went from CX-2231 to CX-2594 which some of you may already know about. But, my concern lies on what the FoMoCo part number states on the sensor itself which reads AA5A-9F479-AC now. This used to end with the letters "AB".  Is this the correct updated part number?

Thanks,
Matt

The very reason I have seven of the map sensors due to the price increase. Lol. Z   :D
The STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS AS410 A5Z9F479B is an excellent alternative IMO plus half the price of the Motorcraft...

Limited accuracy for tuned SHOs.  Boost spikes especially will not register correctly and can cause operational issues over time.
