I received my coilovers last week in this pretty box :)

Reinstall Megan spring and adjust with adjust side up, make sure to reuse the factory rubber pads:

Remove the stock upper bolt, in the Flex it's underneath these cubbies. To remove the cubby remove the 4 screws then lift the front of it up while spinning the rear out from under the lip in the back. It took is a couple of minutes to figure out how to get that done.

Re-use the factory ruber and install on the shock, the bottom rubber goes under the car, the top rubber then is installed from the top of the car with the nut and washer.

Reinstall the factory bolt and utilize the new nut supplied from Megan. For my car the nut was not the same size as the factory bolt so I had to go pick up a new one, we did not get the size of the nut but I will inform Megan so they know.

OK I didn't get a picture of the front dissembly but it was not fun at all. The left side we tried to just force down the front suspension once the strut was unbolted, eventually it worked but not a clean way.

Correct way:
Remove axle nut
Remove control arm to spidle nut
Remove control arm to steering linkage
Remove spindle to strut bolt in the rear.
To make the whole assembly lighter, remove the brake caliper from the spindle, now pull down on A arm and pull the spindle off of the axle and the bottom of the strut.
Remove 4 nuts holding stock strut.
Install Megan coilover into the spindle and reinstall the spindle on the car.
Push Megan coilover up through the top holes and install new nuts.

For my car the Megan hole for the factory sway bar linkage was too small, we had to drill it out with a 9/16 bit. - I will inform them of this, either bigger hole or supply a new bolt that fits.

Remove the sway bar end link from the strut.

This is how the car sat on 17" wheels with 26" tall tires, The rear was adjusted all the way up to make as much of rake as possible. I'll post up pictures of the car on 20's with 255/45/20 this week.

Interested hear how they ride.

Looks like we finally got a coil over option to lower and clean up ride comfort?

GAH.

Grats on new gear, look spiffy!

In what way is the 2013 Flex different from this? I just recently ordered a set of Flex Eibachs for my 13 Flex and I was assuming they would fit the same as the 2009-2012. Did I make a mistake?

Also, how much preload exists on the factory springs? With my Subaru, you had to use spring compressors to safely remove the springs from the struts. I assume this is true of the front struts on the Flex as well. But the rear appears to not really be a macpherson strut. Looks like a standard old school separate spring/shock combo. When you remove the control arm bolts, do you need to watch out for a coil spring to the face or does it just fall out under no real tension?

The springs will swap between vehicles, the struts mount entirely different. I made a topic here:
http://ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php?topic=595.0 (http://ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php?topic=595.0)

We didn't remove the springs yet but I would assume quite a bit since we tried to use compressors to remove the coilovers but it wouldn't work.

Was the suspension done before you went to the track the other night? If so...were you able to get the suspension to control the front wheel hop? I'm going to the track Wednesday and that's what I'm hoping for!

The ride in my opinion..as far as the SHO goes is better than factory and better than the H&RS...but that's going to be a personal opinion. I have mine set at level 13 now for daily driving and I'm just about there

I had no wheel hop at all, with the slicks I now need a higher stall converter, when I flashed the stall the car overcame the brakes immediately.
I'm going to try and get the stage 3 turbos done from Turbos Direct before I have to drop the motor down so I can do both at once. Since I've gone mid 11's in good air (corrected) I'm now chasing 10's mentally.

Looks good Mike! I tried talking the wife into getting coilovers, but she has gotten used to the H&R springs so she's okay with them now. Oh well...lol.

Initial review of the coilovers?
One word, AWESOME!
One million percent better than stock or the H&R's. The car corners flat as a board, absorbs all of the bumps that would cause the H&R to "see saw" and just ride awesome. I haven't really done anything other than adjust the ride height and set to 5 clicks stiffer from full soft. I have more adjustments to make and I think I can get it much better, need to play with shock adjustments and coil preload.

Couple of videos after getting the 20's back on and the height adjusted. This is all the way down for the fronts, rear could drop another 2" or so.

Ford Flex on Megan Coilovers - first drive. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5IJNKM6zlA#ws)
This video is riding on the Megans and testing the aux fuel system activation and cutout
Ford Flex Megan coilover ride around along with demonstration of cutout and E85 fuel system (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hFtOEfRC6c#ws)

I need to take another video of an onramp that is a 270 degree 25mph ramp. The car was completely flat and wanted to corner at 50MPH without even flinching, AMAZING!

Megan isn't ready yet, I am in direct contact with their manager concerning this project. They won't have time until August to review and update the design for you guys. The 2013 change also allows the Explorer Sport to have them installed as well.

That's unacceptable. Tell them to get their rear ends in gear--I HAZ money to spend!

Good; hopefully by time I do my turbos and meth they'll have coil overs out and I can yank the H&R's out.

Given your "detailed" report and choice of words--seems you like them much better than the H&R's you had.

Let me know two things please:
1. The swaybar bolt - does it fit or not? If so what is the OD of the bolt.
2. Did the supplied nut zip tied to the bottom of the rear shocks fit the factory bolt that came off the car originally?

If not any technical information you can give me so Megan can adjust would be great.
Thanks!
Mike

The hole had to be drilled out, but I am not running a stock front end link, so I had to drill it out for a M12 bolt.

The position of the front end link connection is 1" lower than stock, but with the adjustable links I have, was able to accommodate this.  They could change that for the SHO and hole size would be good.

Will find out on the rear nut.

Update - nut is not the right size, but we had 2 available.

Also, the front coilover sit closer to the wheel by 1/4" and I had to add my 1/4" spacer to to the front to clear my 275/45-20's.  Would need to change wheel offset to fix without spacers.

I'm jumping in here to be a +1 for the 2013 Megan kit some day.

Mike your driving impressions sealed the deal for me.  Your H&R's will have to do for now but I can tell that my true destination will be these coilovers.

What are you guys talking about (Pogo)?  Do the H&R's not mate well with the stock shocks?

If you never drove the Megan vs H&R you won't notice it, if you go from H&R to Megan it's quite a difference. The stock shocks just can't tame the higher spring rates during some mid sized bumps at speed. It's not horrible, completely bearable until you feel the difference between the two systems.

Any update on this? Do they have a setup that will work on the 14 sport? I'd like to lower mine in the near future but would really like to install a kit like this rather than the H&R's.

Not sure if this the best place to post. So more driving impression since my install, so far I am really liking considering the weather sucks and I can't give any performance aspects about them. But the few miles I drove today in sub-zero weather the ride was very pleasant had adjust the back down a 2 clicks as rears didn't feel as forgiving on bumps. Now I want make sure I have everything set up right, I measure  ride height before and after and got everything dialed in with 1/16 of a inch.

But the question I have is that good enough for daily driver and goes to strip twice a year and the occasional triple digits spirited drive? Meaning would corner balancing be something I should consider? And if so its my understanding the adjustable sway bar end links are a must. Which I have found a source for and I will supply link to at the end of this thread.

And the other big question who can perform this service for me? I reach out to LMS through email. I guess my main question is this something I need?

Any trick to getting the sway bar end links off? It just turns and turns and there doesn't seem to be any nut on the back side to put a wrench on to stop it. And just to clarify the drive shaft nut is 1 1/4 inch?

And has anybody done this without removing the whole spindle and axle nut?  :curse:  :chair:

Don't know about the '11 SHO, but on the '07 Edge, there is a place where an allen wrench fits on the head of the bolt/stud to keep it from rotating while you remove the nut.

Instead of starting a new topic I'll post in here as it pertains to the install and adjustment of the coilovers.

I finally got around to starting the install of the kit today after much procrastination. I decided to do the rear end first. I set both adjustable coils to the same on both sides, buttoned it all up and dropped it down only to realize that the driver side was much lower than the other side. So I bounced the rear suspension and tried to get the rear to settle a bit and then took it out for a drive. When I got back it was still way lower on driver side (roughly an inch ). I adjusted the driver side coil more and more trying to even it out to the point now where I am roughly and inch now from the bottom of the sleeve ... and on the other side I am roughly an inch or so from the top.

Anybody else have this issue? I have not seen this much difference in other cars I have lowered.

:hmmm:
