3x Super Duty diesels in a row, decided my 15 mile round trip and towing 10K at most 2 times a year would better match the EB

Ended up with a new 2013 4x4 EB F150 Limited, 3.73s

Honestly a bit nervous after all the big trucks, but tons of Youtube vids make me feel a bit better. I was on the fence with 6.2 or EB, but in the end, I think the mileage of the EB will win me over

Longtime Ford guy here, very experienced engine builder and EEC-IV home tuner.  I also have a restored 71 F100 4x4 SB with a carbed 445 stroker, and a 70 Mustang fastback with a 489 cid FE stroker with EEC-IV EFI, alum heads, and all the hot rod goodies.

Game plan is for the EB to stay pretty much stock except for a nice SoCal tune.  I don't like the soft throttle response and want it to shift a little harder, noticed that in the first 10 miles of a test drive :)

Welcome & congrats!  Sounds like the EB might be a little tame :) compared to your other rides, but tunes definitely are gamechangers with this platform.
2007 Ford Edge SEL, Powerstop F/R Brake Kit, TXT LED 6000K Lo & Hi Beams, W16W LED Reverse Bulbs, 3BSpec 2.5w Map Lights, 5W Cree rear dome lights, 5W Cree cargo light, DTBL LED Taillights

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Welcome aboard the ever expanding EBPF family! :hi:

I'll echo, and second the statements above me, this platform is QUITE receptive to tuning and other mods.

You'll be rather happy with the various tuning vendors out there and can't go wrong with any of the options as far as that goes.

Post up some pics when time permits as my Wife adamantly opposed a pickup in our stable.

Therefore, as much as I truly LOVE the EB F150's, i'm forced to live vicariously through you, and other owners.

Enjoy your time here. Thanks for registering and be sure to spread the word around about this place to others whom you may know that are local to you.

We enjoy new registrants!

son of a b.........I actually figured out when playing around with ideas for bedliner/mat and a topper on the back, that this truck isn't going to work, so we put the deal on hold until the end of the day to come up with a plan.  Unfortunately it looks like I am going to have to do all the math myself on any truck, because my dealer seems to think ALL 3.73 EBs are Max Tow even if it doesn't say so.  That's why we went with this truck in the first place.  (I went in looking for big mirrors LOL)

As a 3.73 EB 4x4, mine supposedly will tow 9600 per Fords site, however another F150 site says its 7500 max, but 2 things make even 9600 unachievable anyway

1. GCWR is max 15500, when you use the curb weight of the Limited at somewhere near 6000, then equip it with a topper (needed for dog/regular military moves), a bedliner, and 2 people, 8500 is about it legally.

2. The real show stopper is the rear payload, at 1300, the Limited can bear less weight than even the Raptor.  Although at extreme cases I town at 10K, I could get around it if I had some ability to use the bed or at least be confident I could get to 8500.  Regardless, fun with math, using the 8500 computed max trailer, my tongue weight at around 850, with the topper, bedliner and gear listed above,  I am done.

That's with a lighter than normal load trailer and nothing in the truck except 2 people (accounted for at 40%) and luggage

It sucks because I am not sure I want a lesser truck, but I think I need a minimum of a Max Tow, and more likely a Max Tow plus Heavy payload package.

We'll see what they say, seems like the Max Tows are tough to get around here and the Heavy Payload is almost unknown by the Ford dealers

Lots of guys towing with the truck quite a bit might give you some insight.

Seems that I recall the max tow package didn't give you that much more in terms of towing capacity. I thought it only added some nice fold out mirrors and a trailer brake controller, but I may be wrong. I know you can get the trailer brake controller in the regular tow package. Honestly, I towed well over 10,000 LBS (travel trailer with load levelers) with a 2008 F-150 4x4 for several thousand miles and only had slight issues with braking due to so much tongue weight. If it was a 5th I wouldn?t have had any braking issues because the load would have been distributed more evenly. My father now has a 2012 EB F-150 4x4 and it is so much more of a truck than the 2008 it?s not even funny. I don?t think you will have any problems if you are close to or slightly over the max tow capacity, but that?s just my 2 cents. It may not count for much because I always overload my trailers and trucks.
2013 SHO PP, No Mods Yet...

My427stang

Well I zigged and zagged, almost bought a new F350 Lariat 6.7 but then remembered I wanted something less monstrous this time :)

I have a 2013 EB King Ranch 4x4 short box screw sitting in the garage.  Dealer let me take it and hook it to the trailer.  Trailer was only 8000 lbs but the truck did fine, didn't even squat with a WD hitch.

Next will be some HP mods!

Sounds good!  We'll be looking forward to the mods and pics!

Is there any "what should be done first" posts?  New to the EB
