The more "exotic" mods for the 3.5 EB

What's up with the stuff available from Super Six Motorsports.  They sell ported heads and intake manifolds.  Which is pretty standard, but I haven't seen talked about much on here.  Then they sell some wilder stuff.  Cams and a stroker crankshaft.  Has anyone ever tried their stroker crankshaft for the 3.5 ecoboost?  Or the cams?  Or heck any of it.  It just seems odd to me that this stuff is available and nobody has actually tried it yet.

I think most fear that we can get to the limits of the transaxle without touching the motor.

That being said, I don't think anyone has actually nuked  the transaxle on the dyno or at the dragstrip due to too much power.  Most just seem to die when the torque converter gives up at 100k or so miles.

I'd love to see a full build with good torque management to keep the auto alive and see what kind of mph in the 1/4 is possible.

I think these are basically family cars for most people, despite how well they perform.  Opening up the engine just doesn't fit in the picture.  It is an irreversible commitment.
2007 Ford Edge SEL, Powerstop F/R Brake Kit, TXT LED 6000K Lo & Hi Beams, W16W LED Reverse Bulbs, 3BSpec 2.5w Map Lights, 5W Cree rear dome lights, 5W Cree cargo light, DTBL LED Taillights

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I called super six to discuss those upgrades. I cannot remember the guys name but the limiting factor here is he won't take a car, pull the motor, build it, and drop it back in. You need to ship the motor to him and he will ship it back. Extremely nice guy and very informative. He also mentioned that once he was done and with the correct tune, it would blow the trans all over the track. I got the impression that he obviously wouldn't say no to building the motor but has no faith our drivetrain can handle what his motor could put out.

He said what we really need to do is get in touch with some euro speeds shops to get a better transaxle built. He said the US can make motors all day but European shops are wizards with tranny stuff...

I was a half step away from having a motor sent to them... but until the trans has an upgrade, I am done.

I can understand the issue with the transmission.  It does sound pricey to build the trans and then the motor at Super Six... but on the other hand, at that point you would be looking at possibly building the fastest SHO on the planet...

He doesn't build the 6F55. I/we would need to find another source for that. Plus the PTU... and possibly the RDU.

BPD has the fastest one right now, and he has an even faster tune from
LMS he has never run because LMS couldn't say it wouldn't leave the trans laying at the tree after letting her rip.

Correct.

That record was set back in 2015 on the LOWER of my two track files. Which is/was 525awhp.

11.54 @ 119mph w/1.70 60'.

I have NEVER once ran that 617awhp file at the track, as I was told directly from Dan Millen himself, there's no guessing what will happen to the trans at that power level. You may get one run, you may get 3, or even 6, who knows.

They HIGHLY recommended until I am ready to commit to a built trans, don't risk it.

I did know BPD had the fastest one, and for a long while now.  Actually I couldn't remember his name, I just knew it was the guy with Lt Commander Data as his forum pic lol.  What I mean is that since BPD is only held back by the factory trans, whoever ponies up the bucks for a built trans is going to open the door for themselves to go quicker than the current record of 11.54...

I've been saying the same thing ever since.

That 617awhp file was/is projected to be a high 10's pass.

So always interesting to see what is looming on the horizon and/or what the future may hold for the platform.

Bpd1151 did LMS ever say what they think might let loose? PTU? Trans? RDU? In other words, have the identified the weak spots in the above mentioned parts?

bpd1151

They did not.

The only real additional insight they provided, was that it would be A LOT cheaper to send them my functioning trans, for them to inspect, tear down, etc.in order to properly diagnose the weak point, and then address those during the upgrading process.

Nice thing is, is they have a BUTT LOAD of their own CNC equipment etc. So it can be done in house for the most part. If not entirely.

So, since I no longer drive the SHO during the Winter months, it would have to be a project that is performed during that time frame.

Not likely this year though, as we are still without a contract (going on 3yrs now) and no retro checks expected to arrive anytime soon.

Also, as a result of the above, I am still making payments on my massive audio build. So discretionary mod money is in short supply for the short term.

Swap to a Coyote and RWD.  That would be pretty exotic and awesome at the same time.

Would be cool but you could probably buy another SHO for the price of that swap.
