Revised front rotors?

I just saw a brand new SHO in the lot and the front rotors are the non SHO rotors or at least the inner hub. They don't have the inverted cooling vanes where they are exposed outboard. Was this a cost cutting measure?

I believe the previous rotors DG1Z-1125-C were ultimately replaced by GG1Z-1125-A which do not have cooling vanes .Z  :(

2013 Ford Taurus SHO with Performance Package
The brakes get a larger master cylinder bore for a pedal ratio change that gives you less travel at the top of the pedal for a firmer feel, and the rear vented brake rotors are 30 percent larger. The already massive vented front rotors get dual piston 48-mm calipers with performance friction pads, and the pistons themselves have high-temp dust boots and seals that pull the pads more effectively away from the discs for less heat buildup.

I knew of the 2013 changes. It was because they undersized the brakes on the 2010 SHO. I heard people at Ford evaluated the SHO and told the Taurus pm about the undersized brakes and she didn't understand why the SHO buyer would need something like Brembos. The new rotors seem to be the same size. I wonder if the inerve vanes weren't that good? I know they stopped my SHO from 115 to 0 just fine about 6 times back to back. I see Cadillacs non-V with Brembos all the time

I just redid my fronts two weeks ago and noticed the change (mine was converted 2 years ago with the Levvitown kit).  My fronts were incredibly warped so hoping this new design is somewhat better.

I wonder why they made the change. I just checked the parts catalog and yes, all of the rotors are now replaced with the GG1Z-1125-A rotors (traditional design). The inverted vane design had cooling holes cut into the hub as well. It would seem to cool better than the traditional design. But I bet they are expensive to make because no one else seems to use those type of rotors in the aftermarket.

Anyone notice any brake fade with the newer rotor design? I plan to remove the dust shields and replace them with the police shields when I have to change brakes.

I bought Raybestos Police rotors and they have the cooling vanes.

I'm wondering if they changed due to noise.  My brakes make a lot of noise once hot.  Wonder if the vanes weaken the rotor and allow flex once hot which is causing the noise.  Upgraded with the PP calipers, police spec pads, and police spec rotors.  I still don't care for these brakes.  They are better than the stock non-PP brakes, but still not as good as other stuff I've owned/own.

They feel great until I get a few miles into a good mountain run and then they start making noise and then they start to fade.  Have had to back off on downhill sections to let them cool.

I've only had to do several 115-0 mph stops at the dragstrip back to back (I think it was 6) and they were quiet, but I've never had to do a hill climb race. The problem is they really undersized the brakes. GM did the right thing and used very large brakes with 4-6 piston Brembo calipers on most of their Cadillacs that aren't even V-series Caddies. My neighbor's fiance had an XTS and the new CT6 and both had brakes that would have been better suited on the SHO for the type of driving we do.

Mine can easily do multiple straight line stops.  I feel that it's the stability control system that wears out my front brakes.

Somewhere around the 10th hard turn and my brakes just fade away and start making noises.  I believe that the stability control system is applying the brakes and overheating them long before I ever stand on them to actually bleed off speed.

Was also curious about this, as mine came without the cooling vents. Went back and triple checked my part numbers. Was a little disappointed, but I can't imagine the holes make THAT much of a difference. If I was chasing ounces of unsprung weight, maybe, but for a DD, the new ones work just fine.

X2 with sholxgt and there are some alternate aftermarket options which do have the Vane Design. Z

Here's a reputable site that might still have the rotors with the cooling vanes still available for anyone interested. Z
