Radar detectors

Now, this post is not about which detector is better (Escort or Valentine One). This should be what you are running, how you have it mounted, long saves, advice on the above.

I have been running Escort for years. Sometimes on long trips, I run two, the second one facing rearward.

My current RD is the Redline, with a Blendmount attached to the rearview mirror, hardwired, with a remote mute button. I mount it high up (mirror) so it is out of the way, but can pick radar a bit further. But it does not pick up laser as well.

Anyone else?

When I was a kid back in the 70's I had a Bear Trap. Anybody remember those?  It was like having a shoe box on your dash.

LOL, no, but I still have one of the first model Escorts. It is pretty hefty.

I never hard mount a detector, as a LEO might not take kindly to it if you are pegged with laser. That is why I like one of the features of V1 is the quick release suction cups. and then I stash it under the seat.

I was Running 3 Blinder laser jammers up front and one rear on my G8 GXP and it was a highly effective countermeasure for laser, in conjunction with the V1.It was easy to blend them in on that car, where the Taurus would have to be a more creative install.

I honestly never cared that anyone had a radar detector. Just one that got away. Because the guy behind you will be speeding. i have never heard of anyone caring that some guy had an RD in the car. i think a majority of the RD that people buy are junk (At least the ones non-enthusiasts buy).

It does suck that Kalifornia bans laser jammers though.

I was thinking about this too.

Around here locals don't have radar, they use the old method of paint lines. It's actually funny to see the boxes they time you in. The state police have radar, no laser but never really stop anyone. I've gone 20 over speed on turnpike right past one and they just keep on going.

I'm using a v1 with a remote display but I haven't decided where to mount the display yet.  I want it somewhere close to eyeline of the road, look factory, and be somewhat hidden.  Right now I have the v1 above and to the right of the rear view mirror with its laser window right under the factory tint line.  I haven't bothered to hard wire it until I find where to put the display.

I was also really wanting some laser blinders but I'd want them damn near invisible from view to any cops.

The lines are for VASCAR...it's basically a time vs distance computer that calculates speed over a known distance.  Also by law only PSP can use radar.  Back in the day we had to use a stopwatch and a table that calculated speed.  So you would get the time off the stopwatch, look at the table that would have the time converted to speed, and then you could decide whether to pull someone over or not.  Also, PSP are more forgiving on the PA Turnpike then one non-toll roads.  So I would not count on getting away with 20 over on the Interstates.  But just a little secret, a big black Maglite laying across the mirror looks a lot like a radar gun, and will slow traffic (the ultimate goal) and will not make you work chasing down vehicles and writing tickets...

You know I used to drop the big bucks on the Valentine's and Escorts etc.  But, I've been running a cheap 80 dollar cobra for over 6 years now with zero tickets.  If fact my last ticket was back in early 06 with my 03 Cobra running 92 in a 45 mph zone.  Was seeing how my Steeda tuned 460/472 whp hooked up on the street.  Officer was cool and wrote me up for 65.   ;D

With the size of our cars a 3 (or 4) head system up front is a must with preferrably 2 out back. I have the mobsteel grill with wiremesh so it would be a b*tch to make it look right. On the 2013 or newer it could be easier to do 2 in the grill and a third above or below the license plate. I was thinking about cutting into the plastic cladding on the lower part of the car right and left of the license plate. Just get a good template for an accurate install or it will look like $HIT!
