Turbo bolt leaking?

I'm hoping one of you brilliant minds can help me understand an issue my shop just informed me about. They noticed an oil leak a few weeks ago when I had my oil changed. I brought it back in yesterday for them to diagnose and they said one of the bolts on my turbo popped the head off of it and the oil is coming out of there. I can't seem to wrap my brain around how oil is getting out from a bolt that's still threaded in. What bolt is holding back oil in the turbo system? Anyone have a diagram?

The could be possibly referring to the bolts for the oil lines. Were they talking about on the lines or the actual turbo. The only way i know of popping a head off of a bolt is by over tightening it once its seated and then using way to much torque to shear the head off. If it's on the supply/drain line then it could I could see way more than just a leak since it would be spewing once the line is pressurized and the oil heated.

There have been several revisions since 2010 so I would double check the part numbers but 8 is the bolt they may be talking about.

Agree withwraitherx and it could be the rear turbo supply feed line which sometimes can be fixed by replacing the Banjo. Z
Front or rear?

Whoops, yes I mean the oil return lines of the turbos. I believe they're referring to the rear turbo. This was the one that the same shop replaced back in February. They said they re-used this bolt from the original setup and they claim it broke the head off due to heat stress.

Y'all have been very informative, thanks!

I'm not big on bridges, but I have been looking at some oceanfront property in Montana recently...

No matter the cause, they're taking care of it for me so I've got no issue there.

There's a supply line that feeds oil to the turbos.  It's a banjo bolt, screen filter, and a crush washer.  That's at the top.

The return line is held on by two regular bolts and a metal gasket.  That's on the bottom.

Both are known to leak.  Both lines have been updated multiple times over the year.  If one is leaking, i'd replace the whole line - gaskets, washers, and all.

Give my the case if I were the owner I'd be inclined to either check the repair while on the lift or check once I get it back into my possession.

They actually just replaced the line back in February along with the rest of the turbo setup (cracked), so I don't think it's a line problem, I think they just cranked down too hard on that bolt when they re-assembled everything.
