Sport mode benefits or cons

I'm new here and I drive a 17 mustang ecoboost automatic with performance package. My mods are the following (if it even matters idk):  k&n cai, flowmaster y pipe and axle back exhaust. I drive on sport mode all time, for the following reasons: exhaust sounds louder, picks up more easily, and I believe because of that it waste less gas. My question is: are there any negative effects to driving on sport mode always? And does anyone else get better gas on sport mode over normal mode?

I dont see any ill effects to using sport mode all the time but expect lower fuel economy....shift logic will not be conducive for economy and pedal sensitivity is amplified...you may feel like you get up to speed faster which im sure you do and you feel like you can let off sooner but while accelerating you dumped more fuel

I agree with AJP. Also, not sure how the mustang handles it, but in my SHO, if you are in S, it will stay in 5th gear at highway speeds (85-90 mph). I have never noticed/gone fast enough in S on a normal drive to get into 6th gear. On the race track I don't think I have even gotten into 5th (drag strip) so no idea of the conditions needed for 6th gear in S.

This will hurt fuel economy on a road trip especially, as it will hold you at higher RPM than the speed requires. Part of the exhaust note difference in sport mode driving is due to shifting later/holding higher RPM levels for the same speeds (due to using a lower gear)

LOL! In his defense I'm not sure it will go to 6th no matter the speed but I'm not certain

I want to say ive hit 120 or so and still been in 5th. But at those speeds not really paying a whole lot of attention. I know at 80 on the highway sport is at about 3200 rpm. And at the track trapping 107 I was at the top of 4th? Sport from a start prolongs each gear/holds them out longer rather than shifting at economic points as AJP said earlier.

I would love to take a log from a highway roll up to max speed, but I have to go back to "mexico" for that.

Sport mode locks out 6th gear.  You can manually go to 6th with the paddle but then you are in manual mode until you go back to Drive.    I can understand driving around town in Sport mode but for open highway cruising, I would want 6th gear for the lower engine rpm and better fuel mileage.  Pushing on the skinny pedal will make it downshift if extra power is needed, anyway.
