Hey guys,

Been looking at getting a 170 degree thermostat (especially since it's Black Friday/cyber Monday time).

I see that unleashed has a thermostat that is about $20 cheaper than the Reische.

Any opinions on one vs the other? Known/noticeable differences between them? I've read good reviews on both.

Thanks guys.

I have my Reische-stat for well over 3 years now and IMHO its a quality solid piece for sure and is either made in Germany or USA and would not compromise for a rat stat etc and would avoid any such cheaper alternatives, replica and you can always check the for sale section here on the forum.  Z

Thanks, looks to be about a $10 dollar difference between unleased with the sale, and the Reische from a few different mustang sites (its the same part as on the 03/04 cobra).

Ill probably go with the reische since I know its made in USA and the warranty/reviews for them, plus knowing they have been around for a while.

I'm pretty happy with my LME 160....

Based on the research I've done, a 160 is a bit drastic for a DD car, especially once that sees cold winters. Plus some of the stuff I read referencing the LME not actually operating fully as it should.

170 degree seems like a good performance bump, and from a well known brand, with ample research. I've always had a bit of a problem with LME anyways though, based on their attitude in the mustang scene and dealings I have had with them in the past. I'm not saying their product is bad, but I personally try to stay away from them.

I never asked Torrie to confirm, but I thought his 170 tstat was a Reische? I looked at all the images on the Reische website, and mine had all the same markings. It's very possible I'm wrong. If memory serves, the tstat I bought from him was drop shipped from another vendor (can't remember which one) and the rest of the stuff (X4, plugs, filter) came together with Unleashed Tuning return address.

Same here.....

No issues to speak of, whatsoever.

3yrs and still running strong.

Hmm. I'll shoot him an email and see what he says. That would be awesome and even cheaper for the Reische.

Glad to hear that, but like I said, I don't think a 160 is in the cards for me.

I asked if it was, and his answer "Its Not"

No idea what brand it is, but it is not Reische

So I ordered the Reische from Lethal Performance

http://www.lethalperformance.com/reische-performance-ford-4d-170-performance-thermostat.html

10% off for black friday

Now I just have to convince myself I can burp the system properly so I can install it.

I have a 170 for mine but am not running it anymore.  Not sure what I am losing but I didn't want to have to mess with pulling it I have to take it to the dealer for warranty work.  I've tried a couple different methods but I end up dumping at least a half cup of antifreeze on the motor while doing it.

LOL. Typical half-answer. Thanks for the confirmation that it's not Reische, at least. :)

Haha yeah, I got the impression he isn't super talkative when I talked to him about tuning last year. This time I asked specifically what brand it was, and mentioned that there were rumors it may have been a Reische. But all he said was "its not"

Oh well, I've got one one the way that I know is a Reische, so I'm happy.

When you pull the tstat housing, make sure you prop it up as high as you can to keep additional coolant from running out. I walked away from mine to find a better suited container to fit next to the block before pulling the OE stat and the hose slipped down. Probably drained just over a half gallon into my driveway before I caught it. Whoops...

Sounds like a plan. Ill keep some zipties handy to hold it up and out of the way.
