Hi everyone,

I hope yall are doing good. I've found this site while researching some issues with my current car. I drive a 2011 ford fusion sel v6 which has been annoying me lately. The transmission in this car is god awful especially when changing from 1st, and 2nd gear. Sync is just... i'll leave that for another day. I would like to trade in my fusion as soon as i'm no longer upside-down on my loan. During my research, I've found some positive feedback on the SHO. I haven't went and done a test drive yet but can any of you SHO owners comment on the shifts of the transmission? i'm looking for something shifts smoothly and accelerate effortlessly without having to flooring the gas pedal to get any decent acceleration.  Thanks for your valued suggestions.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

The 6F55 trans employed in the SHO platform has proven itself to be quite stout, and takes a decent, repetitive pounding.

Earlier years, mostly 10's-12's, did present minor issues, in which TSB's were issued. IIRC, something about check balls in the valve bodies needing replacing or something.

Power wise, the engineers whom developed the SHO platform, I spoke with in person during one of my (now several) tours of the CAP assembly plant, stated in a general sense, that the 6F55 did not start presenting failures until "around the 720hp" mark. 720 at the crank that is.

I have run mine with the "lower" of two track files I have (lower being 525awhp / 680 crank) and have not experienced any problems.

The trans & ptu are about the only things that I haven't modded in my SHO, & I was, up until this past Spring, daily driving it, drag stripping it. Not to mention all the "spirited" driving whilst running into the occassional prey out on the street that fell victim to it's prowess and fortitude. Lol. I now reserve it's use mostly for shows, or track use. Remember, the SHO's are a somewhat rare animal out there.

Anyhow, regular maintenance in the form of fluid changes is tantamount to longevity. An accelerated schedule is highly suggested, especially when one starts increasing the power and torque curves, as it's peanuts in comparison to outright replacement.

Their have been quirks along the way which were reported/experienced, but in the grand scheme of things, overall they are uncommon.

Hope that sheds some light into your query, and good luck if you decide upon picking one up. Welcome aboard!

I'm looking at getting a 2016 SHO since it comes with sync3.

bpd1151, very informative thank you!

I would rank the shift quality and overall functioning as adequate.  It is not up to the standards of European cars and not as good as the new 8-speed found in Chargers/Challengers etc.  Even most modern trucks shift quicker and with less drama.

That being said, those are all transmissions and not transaxles.  In the world of transaxles, it is probably the best I have driven.  It seems to hold the power and doesn't do anything too irritating.

Stock I will agree but once the tranny got a dose of AJPTurbo tunage it shifts fantastic while retaining factory torque reductions.

Downsides for me have been lack of full manual paddle control and not cooperating with our attempts to increase WOT shift RPM.

I've been waiting for a HPFP and cam follower so I've become reacquainted with the stock tune and it shifts like......an egg.
