Found out some interesting things... No solution yet... Found out how to crash the ECU, and how to recover a crashed ECU.. yay for experimenting!!! Waiting on some explanation from SCT...

Anyway... Still experimenting..go science!
Please enlighten us with your shenanigans...

AJP would be better at explaining it... I will tell you this though... I wouldn't want anyone else experimenting on my car...

What I can elaborate on is, if a tune doesn't load correctly it can cause the stock file to become corrupt. SCT tunes I believe just overlay new values on the stock tune file..So if the SCT device doesn't get the tune loaded correctly into the ecu..and your car won't start .. and you can't revert back to stock... Then SCT can build a recovery stock file that forces the SCTx4 to load it into the ECU... And boom back in business in under an hour...

EDIT: What this tells me is that our ECUs are a bit more robust than I thought...

What it tells me is that the SCT device is poorly designed.  There shouldn't be a case of a tune not loading.

Yes, I'm still bitter regarding my call to their inept/rude customer service department regarding my tuner running the defrost vent on high during a flash and the fuel gauge reading zero afterward.  Have had tuners on numerous vehicles and never had these sorts of issues.

Love that we have great tuners that use the SCT device, but I won't purchase another given any other choice.

Yes, there are tables I guess that SCT allows you to manipulate, and if your strategy doesnt support certain tables they are blacked out? Anywho... One of the values that are related to the Advanced Traction Control if modified causes the ecu to crash... The device reports back that everything is good, but when I tried to start the car it wouldn't kick over... Then the solenoids under the hood would open and close continuously... When I attempted to revert back to stock the SCTX4 would error out saying it was not married to my car...

I was able to use the mycal from LMS to rewrite ECU with the stock tune file... But SCT support had to provide a rescue file to unlock the SCTx4 again...

Brad still has some ideas though....

That may be a little harsh lol...It really is a bit more complicated although I can not say exactly how..But nowadays creating tuning software it seems there needs to be a level of tuning experience and computer science involved.

I think SCT may be one of the larger tuning companies which is one of their problems but it is also one of their assets. They have HUGE resources available to them.

I have used TONS of tuning packages.....UPREV for nissans and infiniti's. Hondata for Hondas and Acura's. Cobb for subarus and OPEN source for subarus also.

SCT to me seems to have the most adjustability available to the end user or Tuner...Sure, there can be software packages that focus on specific areas and can possibly do some things better than others but overall and on average SCT have more tables  available than I have seen in other software suites.

I'm not sure the defrosters running during a flash is a bad thing. In fact it may be by design...When I flash tunes with my IDS VCM II which is what ford uses my defroster ran, so that seems to be a ford thing not an SCT thing. I have no idea why.

There are so many levels of customer service at SCT which is a common problem of large companies and in that case I tend to blame the person rather than the company

You could say that I'm biased because I tune with them but I'm simply going off of what I see when I tune.

Normally you wouldn't have issues with a simple tune flash but due to the access I had and the unique functions we were attempting to achieve we may have found a rare hole in software functionality...The tables I was changing I doubt anyone would ever have a need to change

It was odd to say the least.

I also think some of these problems are due to these tuning companies being so overly cautious on their devices being used by multiple people and cars that they create safeties and protections they make their own problems...If Steal blues device was simply allowed to flash a stock tune the problem could've been avoided..The stock tune was not corrupt it but the device was being told that the vehicle was the wrong ECU I guess due to the prior tune flash which contained a very odd scalar change

See, I knew Brad would come in with a better explanation lol... When trying to break new ground there are usually bumps...

I have to give Brad a ton of credit.. he was on SCT support like white on rice...

Like I said.. interesting developments lol.

Yes and although I'm a dealer I am perfectly capable of bashing them lol....I never heard back from their "emergency support" and Steal blue had to wait til morning for resolution...I tried and I also followed up the next day because I too needed info on this.

And the descriptions in the software sucks and sometimes non existent but I've had other tuners tell me it's not their job to hold my hand lol so at least they make a ton of scalars available.

I will say, once I got ahold of support in the morning they were very helpful in getting the device unlocked...which required me to reflash the car again with their rescue stock file... And then because I like to verify I flashed the defunct tune again just to make sure it wasn't a communication blip the first time around..which required another call to SCT...another rescue file to be created..their support for me was pretty good.

If anyone with a 13+ wants to play around with this it will entail running an additional wire to the instrument cluster (position 18 if I remember right).  When the vehicle is programmed for Perf. Package a ground signal to this changes the TSC/ESP status.  If you are willing to tear it apart and have access to change the build data I am in for helping you out.

If you have a 10-12 and want to try to add it I believe its just build programming data so if you have access to playing with that can work on it together as well.

Just hit me up.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Pardon my ignorance, but when you say Build Programming Data are you speaking of utilizing  IDS, SCT, or something different needed to modify the code?

Thanks!!

Nevermind, looked up some older posts you had running concerning the Advanced Stability Control.. I wonder if similar changes can be made using a different platform to modify the ecu....
