Running a 26" tire at the track on a SHO pp?

So I was thinking of ways to improve my times and it dawned on me I have a perfectly good set of lightweight wheels with drag radials that will bolt right up. The problem, they are a 26" mickey Thompson that's matched great with my Mustang but not sure how that would effect the gearing in my sho? For those that have experienced with different tire sizes then stock can anyone confirm that dropping to that size would help or hurt overall et?

Im sure it would help...would he a cool test...id imagine you would get into 5th gear which would be awesome....woukd need a tune adjustment to make sure it shifts properly i would think

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's curious if this could be beneficial or not..lol. I've mentioned it Torrie already and his response was similar to yours. I may bolt them up and log a pull to see how it responds before taking it down to be disappointed

26x8x17, they are SUPER SMALL on the car btw.

I just checked the overall diameter on both   and the front is 25.72 and the rear 26.40 which brings it to a 2.76% difference. I wonder at what point is the awd compromised with running a different sized tire? I also have some 26" et drags but on a 15" wheel which I highly doubt would fit over stock pp brakes

Oh I can only imagine. I borrowed a set of 26" tall hoosier's for my old tbss and they looked pretty out of place as well..lol. They managed a 1.66 60ft though without a tune change and it was also awd

If that's the case my experiment may actually work! Next hurdle will be stuffing a 10.5" wheel with a 305 tire on the front of the car that's lowered on h&r's. With the shorter diameter it should work but stick out past the fenders if I was to guess

I would consider the stress on the axles from the changing geometry, because the offset might be just too much.

Bigger tire = more drag and unsprung weight.
I'll sell you my slicks for $200 shipped if you want to try them out, pick up some EVO wheels for cheap locally, they're 17x8 and bolt right up.

This is a good point which didn't even cross my mind. I still may give it a try but definitely wouldn't be long term.

The whole idea of trying this out is using a wheel/tire combination already in my possession. I wouldn't necessarily spend money on those sizes for my sho just asking if this may be an option for gaining a couple tenths without spending anymore money on parts. I appreciate the offer but not looking to buy a drag setup at the moment

Borrow an EVO wheel and try and bolt it up, they're available all over for CHEAP
