Zalvern

Hello all who read this thread. I' used to be heavily active on 2gFusions.net (as ZDyne, but call me Z or Zal here for short) as I own a 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium that is modified. I will be retiring it as a secondary driver with my new primary: 2017 Lincoln Black Label MKZ 3.0T AWD. It's inbound for delivery soon from the factory.

The MKZ is a bit of a dark horse (I like that though). There isn't any big active communities due to its common age bracket, but I'm going to be one of those exceptions I guess. I still will also be keeping my 2014 Ford Fusion as its tuned by Livernois Motorsports and has some modifications that makes it not worth selling ever.

Not too long ago I had the pleasure to meet with Brian of BND Automotive in person, which was nice to put a face together. It was also this forum's feedback on Brian's amazing products that helped me invest in things like ACES IV. A really great guy to share car knowledge with. Thanks to Brian's work, I am even enjoying Livernois' 100 octane tune even though they're against non-racing fuel methods. Though I mostly daily drive the Fusion under 93, as the 100 octane is too much fun with its aggressive shifting and thus burn gas like crazy!

Oh yes, I should also express thanks towards ecoboostsho for all the efforts in finding additional Torque app PIDs. Those were great and worked nicely on my Fusion back then (now I use FORScan). I'll be honest that I lurked these forums for quite some time, but now since I'm having two cars that utilize Ecoboost engine technology, its time to join up here.

I'll share pictures of my upcoming new MKZ, and the Fusion if interested. Take care to all for now!

Welcome to the forum!

I'm a big fan of ACES and its awesome to see you can run the 100 octane tune with it.

I need to get some more and maybe some E98 race corn as well but I haven't heard from Brian in a while, If you happen to talk to him tell him to call me.

I look forward to the introduction of your new Lincoln and would love to see the Fusion as well.

We at EBPF love ALL things Ecoboost.

Welcome to EBPF, Zalvern, congrats on "upgrading" your forum status LOL.  Congrats also on the new ride, and look forward to seeing pics of both the MKZ and the Fusion.  Do you have a build thread elsewhere for the Fusion you can bring over?  You can put it here:
http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php/board,98.0.html
2007 Ford Edge SEL, Powerstop F/R Brake Kit, TXT LED 6000K Lo & Hi Beams, W16W LED Reverse Bulbs, 3BSpec 2.5w Map Lights, 5W Cree rear dome lights, 5W Cree cargo light, DTBL LED Taillights

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Yeah I'll get around to sharing photos and extra additions in a build thread. Just been holding out on this long train ride delievery.

I'll get pictures and stop being avatar-less then!

Meeting Brian of BND Automotive was great, he's busy of course but great to listen to as he loves to chat in regards to his work. Pump gas, even premium, is so unreliable in quality  and race gas is too crazy in price, so ACES IV is a savior to fuel tanks.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm mostly Fusion/MKZ knowledged but appreciate all discussion and knowledge sharing Ecoboost or heck, motor related in general.

Congratulations on the MKZ!   I look forward to hearing your impressions.  Have you had any discussions with Livernois about tunes for the 3.0?

Thank you! I have inquired already about further tuning with Livernois. Of course they are waiting for its full release (like the Fusion Sport they are just now arriving to dealers and owners). I may simply go check my MKZ for a dyno and tune run depending how soon I feel up to it.

The 3.0T is actually an evolved version of the Ford Edge Sport's 2.7L Ecoboost, which is different from the F-150/Fusion Sport 2.7L Ecoboost. I learned there are 2.7L Ecoboost engine designs, which is quite interesting. Noticable big differences is drive belt configuration and fuel injection technology, but there will certainly be more.

Hopefully the fuel system has room to grow.  I'm guessing that will be the limiting factor.

I think the 2017 MKZ was originally going to have a new 9-speed auto.  Looks like it has our 6-speed instead?  Maybe the 9-speed wasn't developed in time for this model year and will debut for the 2018?

If it's anything, the supposed Direct Multi-Shot Injection (which looks to be two variable injectors per cylinder than just one) is what gave the Ford Edge Sport some glorious tuning gains unlike the F-150's 2.7L. I was pretty stoked knowing the MKZ got the Edge Sport's engine design meaning it just may be one heck of a sleeper in tuning alone!

As for the 9-speed transmission. My guess is it just isn't up to scale yet for a performance line aspect, as all transmissions are built differently even if they share similar ID numbers. The internals can be different at least, and from what I've seen the performance went to the 10-speed RWD base transmission while the 9-speed is more pure economy focused.

At least the 6F55 is well sturdy and tough with good care on it. I always envived the SHO's for having it and am happy it is going into the MKZ's performance side. My vehicle will have the dynamic torque vectoring so it definitely has to be a tough transmission to handle that, along with the uprated 400 HP and TQ which is more than the SHO's. I don't care for how many gears there are, just close to smooth and fast performance, and ideally less shift lag. Really dislike my Fusion's 6F35 via stock. Part of the reason I am running Livernois 100 Octane tune is to stop that transmission from being such a shifting slouch. Even filled it with Amsoil's ATF fluid.

I am with you on the use of the 6F55.  The upcoming 9 speed might be the greatest thing since sliced bread but we KNOW the 6 speed is a good transmission.  My experience with Chrysler's 8 speed transmission is not that favorable.   It has a tendency to not stay in top gear at the slightest little hill or even into a headwind.  It keeps "hunting" for the right gear since the OD ratio is so high.   The primary purpose of the 8 and 9 speed transmissions is fuel economy to meet CAFE requirements.  Sometimes, that flies in the face of real world usage.  Not saying the Ford/GM 9 speed would be problematic at all but we don't yet know how it will perform.

I am very interested in your experience with the 3.0.  Later this year I am either ordering a Continental or MKZ with that engine but I will definitely want it tuned.   Your experience and comments on how you like your MKZ with the stock 3.0 will be helpful to me.
