Emissions rejection

I dont think most tuners really touch part throttle operation...but alot of you do....if thats the case and they smooth out fueling and cruise operation then, with the 3 bar tune it should actually be easier to set your im monitors

It sounds like alot of you correlate more power to worse emissions and not being able to set the monitors......the monitors are ALL about cruise operation....there are a couple tests that require 3/4 throttle though

Just want to add that, in the case of our cars, you could probably use the stock cats and pick up power just by replacing all of the piping with smooth mandrel bent 2 1/2" tubing.

I would guess that the cats PPE is using aren't significantly higher in flow than stock, but they are being paired with significantly higher flow piping.  Net result is much better flow without a CEL.

Could probably ask ppe but usually the substrate of material is measures in cells per inch

My g35 had high flow cats that were 300 cells per inch...stock was about 600....so you can see why if you flow more due to less cat material you wont have the catalyst action

They use Magnaflow high flow cats... Agree that the OEM DP piping is a restrictive hideous appearing piec of work.

So refocusing this on the actual topic at hand, which is OBD system readiness with aftermarket tunes and their impact on emissions testing, while I did not intend to do this until next week, I see enough baseless speculation going around in this thread that I went ahead and returned the tune to stock and reinstalled the 2 bar MAP. I'll complete enough driving today to ready the systems following the ECU flash and I'll take the vehicle in for emissions testing in the next couple of days.

I would just keep your handy dandy Phone as mentioned a while back considering this is page 4,lol and keep monitoring Torque pro until the monitors say "complete"and then just go straight to your local emissions inspection center,BTW the monitors will be highlighted in green when ready with the exception of one monitor which will be red and not called for.  Z

These are my oem DP at 3,000 miles.  Z    BTW Certainly agree with BiGMaC on the mandrel bends and being restrictive.  Z

i just had to get rid of the p1000 codeto pass state inspection here in MO. my guy said that sometimes some of the obd gauges can cause issues, which i do have. anyway took off my gauge & did the driving routine & it cleared the code & so it passed. had passed before with just the ppe dp's no issue. anyway when threw back the tune, my being lme, didn't throw a p1000 code. in 2 yrs will see if have the p1000 code before go for inspection, if it doesn't it should pass.

I'm pretty confident mine will pass too, Torque Pro shows all the systems ready. Didn't get a chance to go today though, I drove by the place and the line was 3/4 of a mile long at 8:05 this morning to get in to confirm it.

I wanted to swing back in here and update since it's been a minute, I passed but it turned in to a bit of a s*** show. The TL;DR is PPE catted down pipes and a stock tune will pass emissions testing in Illinois and I would assume any other state that uses OBD II testing for their emissions.

The longer version goes thusly - I returned to stock, used the Bluetooth OBD adapter and torque to verify all the systems were in a ready state, went to test again and failed on my second time due to "vehicle non-communication." The testing station plugged in to my OBD port but couldn't read the car, this happened a total of three times in one visit before the failed me the second time. I was absolutely livid, I knew the OBD port was fine based on 1.) their being able to test it initially and finding the systems not ready 2.) me being able to use my XCAL to return the car to stock and 3.) me being able to use the Bluetooth adapter to test and verify the system readiness.

I ended up using my XCAL and visiting a couple of parts stores to use their devices to confirm the OBD port was working fine by having them scan the car. I spoke with a mechanic friend of mine and he stated it's actually a semi-common problem he's seen with people who use OBD adapters for data logging or whatever and leave them perpetually plugged in like I had, so that may be a cautionary tale for anyone that leaves their adapter plugged in all the time.

Anyways, I returned to the test site at the end of June, the car was non-com on the first test and I was about to flip out, but on the second attempt it read and passed without any further issue.

Yeah, been a few reports of incidents even with the obdlink mx, maybe due to newer pcm architecture?  No issues on my 07 Edge so far, knock on wood.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Glad you made it through the troubled waters.  Thanks for the cautionary tale about keeping adapters plugged in.

I use the Bluetooth MX with torque pro pretty much daily and I have seen this kind of issue from time to time normally switching between the MX and the SCT Livewire. The biggest cause I have seen is starting the car with the MX module on the port. If going for a test it may be a good idea to run for a few cycles before going to get testing.

I also have less issues like this if I charge the battery as much as I can.

The PPE DP I sell pass all readiness checks on stock tune, they will pass everything but a visual as they are not CARB certified.
Also to remind everyone, I made 560WHP on catted PPE pipes with cutout closed on stock exhaust on my flex and 600WHP with cutout open.
They'll flow enough for any of your HP needs. :)
