OAR

Hi Torrie,

I saw that OAR is adjustable in the tune.

Would it be possible to increase the min/max so we would be able to see poorer/higher octane conditions than stock?

Knowing that -1 is 93 and 1 is 87 we would be able to calculate octane above and below those levels if it is possible without messing up the knock strategy.

On a serious note I have also thought about this and could find nothing saying it could be adjusted, it appears to be a fixed range. From what I have read it seems all the sensors it uses to determine OAR would be applicable with E85 or race gas for that matter so it really could show an improvement say over 93 when mixing.

Scott it can be adjusted...im not surprised much that you couldnt find anything on it...only people with software would onow that its an adjustable scalar

I was looking in forums for people who have adjusted this, not in software. So how does this work then? You allow it to scale between -2 and +2 for example and based on the knock sensor and timing advance it will show a setup running E85 or meth as being higher octane with a -2 vs a tank of 93 showing as -1? I'm sure I'm simplifying it but is that the general idea?

Im not exactly sure how the scaling works but id like to see how people are adjusting an item in the tune without tune editing software

Yes. My concern is the effect this could have on the knock strategy. Unintended consequences and all that.

You are getting confused. I was looking for people who were adjusting this in software. I was not looking in the software as I don't have it. Guess we won't know how it works until someone tries it, any takers?

I think if you change the values in the tune it will change the limits of how much scaling can take place

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!
