A device for drag racing for launching. You set it at the rpm you want and then it activates with the brake pedal, at least that is how I set mine up on my Mustang. It allows you to hold the gas pedal to the floor and the rpm's will not go above where you set them on the two step, light turns green and you let off the brakes, the gas pedal is already to the floor.

Was your mustang a stick?...and if you  had an automatic did you have a high stall converter?

Sounds like cheating.

Its not like launching the SHO is hugely challenging.

If I had any less to do I'd just stay home.

Actually ive thought about experimenting with the tq converter settings to simulate having a high stall converters that people use for drag racing...like  in stock trim if u floor it at the line and hold the brake i dont think it will rev much past 2500 rpm...im not sure because i dont brake boost when i race because i dont like loading up the tranny

The reason it wont rev higher than that is because in the tune the more you push the pedal the more commanded tq goes up and also when the rpms go over 2000 the tq converter is commanding less slip.

So i thought i could change it to allow more slip and get the rpms up to like 3000 then command full lock...i just dont feel like experimenting on my own car and losing a transmission

Plus i dont even know if its beneficial...if tuned properly you can have massive tq at 2500 rpm and turbo lag is non existent in these cars

Past about 2400 rpm my brakes wont hold the car.

Right...something has to give...the converter is locking up on you, prepelling the car

I wouldn't do a 2-step on the SHO. Those things put a beating on the drive train. The SHO has no problem with down low power. A lot of 4 bangers I know use them to help build boost off the line.

AJP turbo

Im pretty sure the only cars that use them are manual transmission....any car thats a stick can benefit not just 4 bangers

I was reading somewhere(sorry cant find the link) that someone did try to install a higher stall their SHO and it pretty much did nothing for their times in the quarter mile.

And if there would be any benefit it would be from a 2 step anti lag. But these cars build boost pretty much right off idle there would be no benefit.

Probably wasnt tuned properly..i wouldnt expect a gain from a tq converter without tuning...its not gonna work like putting a 3400 stall in a turbo 350 tranny.

Because a higher stall would help if u launched at 3k full throttle....anti lag and a 2 step is different than a high stall converter

I have that stall sitting in my garage, it was an LMS car.
I'm senile and don't forget who's car it was but converter was from Circle D in TX.
Anybody is welcome to have it if they want to experiment.
