I've looked at the threads pertaining to the one member that utilized a 3" single pipe, but the site recommended I start a new thread instead of posting in another.

Without jacking up my car and taking measurements myself, does anyone have some fairly exact measurements of the stock cat-back and good pictures of the underneath?  I'm contemplating building my own cat-back and pairing it with a good set of catted down pipes next summer, but I'd like to draw it up and see what it looks like on paper.  Cost-wise, I'm looking at around $700 for materials and I'd fab it up in the garage.

I figured on using 2.5" dual into 3" single y-collectors at each end, a single (maybe a pair) 3" in/out race bullet(s) in the center, and a 2.5" in/out race bullet on each side at the rear, with 3.5" tips at the bumper.

I fabbed up the exhaust on my '79 Capri using a pair of the 2.5" in/out race bullets, and it's obnoxiously loud.  I did expect that, with a healthy V8 though, which is why I'm considering 1 or 2 mufflers in the center section.  That should help with the volume and the tone, while still allowing the turbo to breathe properly.

I cut factory exhaust in two sections, from cat back to the resonator its 41 inches, from resonator to the rear muffler its roughly another 58 inches,so basically a grand total of 99 inches from cat back, hope this helps any.  Z

You might be talking about my custom catback, it is still available if you are local and would like to save cost and time on most of the work.

Key notes if you do decide to go your own route, the mufflers make all the difference in the end in regards to sound levels. I would recommend Borla or Corsa mufflers, or even the OEM mufflers with a single high-flow resonator in the system similar to our design.

Unfortunately, I'm not local.  That's a good price, too!

I was contemplating the Dynomax race bullets, as they are going to be under the car where you can't see them and where it's hard to clean/polish, especially in the winter.  Those are what I have on my '79 Capri (originally built it for my '84 Capri, but swapped the entire driveline into the '79).

I've got a set of Magnaflow tips that would be put on the end.
