I'm a bit late to the game, but I'll throw out there that one clue that does lend some support to the road grime theory is that the CAI prefilter is covered in the stuff as well. If that box seal actually seals against the hood, how else would the stuff coat the prefilter than if it was coming from outside the engine compartment?

When was the last time the engine bay was cleaned prior to noticing this grime under the hood? Was any sort of "dressing" used the last time the engine compartment was cleaned/detailed?

All this from one day. I added coolant to engine on Tuesday. Tuesday night engine shuts off while driving. Wednesday morning all thus stuff all over. Car was driven maybe 50 miles on dry pavement. (Freeway)

I would be ok with the road grime theory if the day before it was just as crappy. Not the case. But I think I'm fighting a losing battle.

At new dealer now. They are saying missing additional cover on bottom. Saying it's not the belly pan so I'm a little confused. Apparently when transmission was replaced that cover was not reinstalled. Damn it! $135 for that. This dealer is going to steam clean engine though.

I'm don't know of any other cover down there except for the belly pan.... Please post the part number when its complete.

There is a removable piece that attaches to the front bumper (right behind "chin")

The end tray is two pieces. The big one that we remove to change oil, and one under the front bumper cover and which the cover that we remove for oil changes slides into slots into it.

Ok, I know what your talking about now.
Thinking where the tranny is I didn't know that needed to be removed.

Took car to other dealer this morning. Turns out its dealership that sold the car when new. AND, they are performance/mod friendly.

Anyway, they come back and say road grime as well. But says a pan missing from car. i'e' the one for the tranny you speak of. My trans was overhauled last year. That dealer and owner went under so it may be difficult to have them replace that pan. $135 for it new.

They steam cleaned the engine so now at least I have a fresh start. I will clean CAI pre filter and filter this weekend

Still no resolution on the stalling?

Nothing on stalling from dealer. But I believe it to be from the OBD reader I had installed. Im returning it and just going to use to really expensive one that has no issues. Obdlink mx

Looks much better clean! Just needs to have the oil fill cap turned right side up. ;-)

Ya, hopefully this was just a freak thing, and anyways, good to have protection back on the underbelly too!
