Excited for tomorrow. X4 and NAV!

I took a big compromise with my car.  I had to have a Blue PP with sunroof, 402a, and nav.  I finally found a candidate only one state away.  I had to jump on it, didn't have nav, but thanks to Jason at www.fordpimods.com I will tomorrow when my newly modded APIM comes in.   Then today I picked up an X4 from a friend that only used it to datalog.  So I'll be throwing on the SCT can tune.  I know the 3 bar is the cats meow with a custom file but I want to keep things simple for now.  Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've read even the simple can tune will put me at 400/400 at the flywheel.

Next up, cutting the rear coils to get rid of the "downward dog" stance.  Even with a week's worth of luggage for my family and sticking two people in the back the ass was STILL above level.

Sct canned tune is garbage...ive logged it just to see what it was doing and i can open the tune and see whats in it...nothing dramatic or special...very subtle...its crap and best matched with cut coil springs..very economical combo...or cheap and crappy guess it depends on your point of view

Yes, I'm aware the SCT can tune will be soft.  I'll give it a shot and see how it does.  I'm not looking for every single HP.  Just some subtle improvements. If I don't like it after I drive and log it with Torque then I'll consider having my local shop dyno tune it.  My Marauder was built a little to much for it's use as a business car.  I haul clients around in and want to try not to get to crazy with this one as my daily.  Its no big deal to cut a small amount off a coil spring.  If it creates any new problems you can get new PP springs from the dealer.  Given what I used the car for I do not want to lower it and deal with alignment issues, drive way scraping, and a rougher ride for clients. Unless ur local shop is an ecoboost expert i wouldnt let them touch it...just because they have a dyno doesnt meant anything...most professional tuners with great reputations ive spoke with will not touch ecoboost for customers untill they have tested on some...its nit like anything they have tuned before

From what he told me it sounds like they go through Unleashed then dyno and make any necessary changes from there.

Sweet, congrats!

I've grown to like the raked stance.  I have no idea how people cope with the front lower, it already scrapes on everything.

ajp's advise is spot on... the Ecoboost being primarily TQ based... Be sure. Ask them straight up.

You would be able to go through unleased yourself....they wont be able to modify torries tune at all...he will send them your tune in cef.format that is protected...unless you have the tune file in mtf nobody can touch it

Well, got the car put back together.  Its nice to have nav!!

I had an interesting experience with the X4.  It thought my car was an Edge.  Figured maybe same strategy so I tried to continue and was given an update error (which I had already done).  I called SCT and got excellent support.  He sent me a test file to verify strategy and sent me the tune file.  It still programs as an Edge lol.

Impressions....

I went from 10psi being the peak boost to 13.6psi.  It feels fantastic.  I raised all the shift pressures to +5% and loaded the 91 octane tune (We only have 91 in UT)  I'm pretty damn happy.  Also noticed if I get off the gas while its under throttle I can hear the bypass now with the windows down.  Could it be faster with a 3 bar and custom.  Absolutely!  But this gave me exactly what I was looking for.

Once I had the tune on my Fox and Cobra dialed in to 99% I finally just had to take a break.  Custom Tuning yourself can consume your life.  I'm sure you've sat in bed at 3am and thought "hmmmm If I adjust the idle air dashpot a bit I can fix that surge..." then next thing you know wife is pissed because your in the garage dinking with things.

That's why my goal with this car was to just throw a few simple things at it and call it good.

Enjoy the navi, went through the same process a few months back and dont worry about those six codes, cause anytime you unplug the APIM module it will set off comm codes, just clear them and you should be good, were you able to install the 911 USB-ZIP.   Z

Yea, it was weird I had to reload the 911 assist.  It was already on there before.

That's why Torrie's service is really a fantastic value for $199 bucks. He does all the work, we just enjoy it. I had a problem on the 2013 that he had never encountered before. We swapped a couple q and a emails and 30 minutes later I had a new tune and the problem was solved. Every time he does a retune he makes less money on the deal. Sometimes I wish he'd put a tip jar on his website, lol.
