I came across this article where they installed a turbo smart wastegate actuator on the ecoboost mustang. Very impressive mid range hp and trq improvement. Anyone out there install this wastegate actuator?? I know they install them on the upgraded turbos from ecopowerparts.

Interesting article and product... Does it come in a direct bolton version for the SHO?

Ill try and post more later...i would not put anything like that on this car....its no surprise their advance trac was giving the car issues during the testing....they seemed to think if they reflash to reset the adaptives it would get better ...might get worse...people dont really know what all the adaptives do and the tables that go along with it...but they all act like they know when they say things like reset the adaptive strategy and it can help

I'm going to call Turbo Smart tomorrow... I hope it's a bolt on like the mustang ecoboost. I'd be extremely happy with the additional mid range power that ecoboost mustang got after the installation. Like i mentioned previously their using them on the upgraded turbos so my guess is their available for our cars.

This is about as good of an idea as putting a manual boost controller on these cars..u can adjust the wastegate preload in the tune with the sho

Stock is set to 6.5psi...i have mine at 12 so the wastegate doesnt crack early which helps turbo response.

This mod will most likely lead to throttle closures to control boost because boost levels will not be what the ecu is expecting to see.

U want more midrange power?..dial in more boost with the tune and do it the right way...due to complex and complete wastegate dynamics of the ecoboost boost control system this mod will skew the tables...who knows what pressure spring is in the turbosmart wastegate...its most likely different

All the tables in the tune are set up for whats in the oem wastegate..if u change that then everything will be off....

I doubt ur tuner would spend much time redefining some of those tables...some of the tables for wastegate duty cycle are based on desired exhaust flow through the turbine

Ford spent alot of time populating the tables for what wastegate duty cycle will yield certain boost at all load and exhaust flow

The boost control in the sho is like the cars that are mass airflow tuned in the sense that u cant just throw an intake on and go ...seems innocent enough just to change an intake tube but the way the maf reads in a tube of different geometry skews the airflow readings

Change a component of the boost control system in the ecoboost and the computer wont understand why the expected outcome is not whats expected...

Doesn't look like they offer one for the 2013-present SHO due to their electronically controlled. They do how ever offer a Bov that's run electronically. Theirs a lot of 2011-2012 F150's having good results with the turbo smart wastegate actuator.

All ecoboost engines have electronic boost control including the ecoboost mustang so not offering it to the sho for that reason is suspect....so i wouldnt put that wastegate actuator on any of them...

And i dont see a reason to upgrade the bov unless you had trouble maintaining higher than stock boost pressures like some of the lancer guys ...

There is alot of ecoboost f150 having good results without an aftermarket actuator...im sorry but thats just a waste of money

Anyone that would want to put that on their car obviously has never seen the tables for the turbo in the tune lol

Through programming we can have the benefit of multiple springs in the wastegate diaphragm...its a pretty sophiticated boost control we have in these ecoboosts

The vacuum actauated wastegate system is a mechanical-pneumatic boost controller, boost pressure is limited mechanically via a diaphram and spring, boost pressure can be increased within a limited range by controlling a wastegate pneumatic solenoid, the wastegate pneumatic solenoid valve will be discussed on a  later session which is very more appealing and plays a larger role in the procedure.  Z

I'm not sure about SCT, but using HPTuners I found the stock SHO setting for Wastegate Spring Preload was 3.19 psi
The F-150's with the 3.5L EcoBoost were set to 4.65 psi stock.

The 2015-up Mustang 2.3L EcoBoost was 9.29 psi, and the Focus RS was set to 9.58 psi

Is there any merit to increasing this scalar setting in the tune? And if so, how much should go we up?

AJP turbo.  Are you doing any tuning for anyone. I have not tuned my sho yet but I like that you dig a little deeper than most.  Let me know if you are and what I need to do to get that to happen.  Thanks!

I installed the Turbosmart 7lb wastegate actuators on my 13 PP SHO. I have had no problem with them. The thing I noticed is that part throttle drivability is better. It boosts much quicker when tipping in at part throttle. And my tuner said nothing to me when I had it dyno tuned a couple weeks ago and it made 437 torque with stock turbos

Was it a difficult install? Did you have to remove the turbos to install them? Once they were installed did they needed to be adjusted? I'm still interested in this mod.
