"How-To" Fix Loose/Wobbly Shifter

When I first got my SHO, I noticed that the shifter was very loose and you could turn it quite a bit side to side. Upon further investigation I found that it was missing one of the two screws that hold it to the shifter rod. I have no idea what happened to it as I don't have any sort of rattle, maybe the PO took it off for some reason and lost it?

Anyways, on to the fix:
At Home Depot (You can probably find these at any hardware store or even online) I picked up a pack of screws from the drawer section in hardware.
The ones I bought were a 3 pack of "M4-.7 x 6mm" (Note the .7) Flat Head Phillips Zinc Plated Machine screws. [http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-M4-0-7-x-6-mm-Zinc-Plated-Flat-Head-Phillips-Drive-Machine-Screw-3-Piece-per-Pack-802988/204274524]

These fit perfectly in place of the original, and I went ahead and replaced the one that was it in with one of these since they are phillips unlike the original that are star.

Excellent. I assume you used something like a plastic putty knife to gently work the chrome trim ring down?  I need to replace mine sometime and was unsure how easy it was to slide it down.  My lever has a chrome flake issue like the taillights!
2011 SHO non-PP, Ingot Silver, 2013 fender vents, all stock (for now).
Future: Tune, 3-bar, new plugs.  Catted DP and exhaust someday.

Yeah, the best way is to start prying down on the ring on the back of the shift knob (the side you can see while sitting in the seat)

Ive noticed the chrome can start to look bad with scratchs and it feels like its gonna start peeling like the taillights? any sel shifters without chrome? hahah but seriously is it just those screws that hold the knob on? as i was thinking of getting a new one.

Not sure about other shifters, but yeah it's only those two screws. You could always vinyl wrap it like I did, its super simple!
