The boost spikes are not contributed to the 3 bar at all. But it does allow the ecu to properly fuel during a boost spike that comes from the tune...there are only 2 values that need changed in the entire tune to make a 3 bar installed sensor work with stock boost levels
Get a 3BAR... and the tune mod for it... It allows more incremental adjustments by the ECM which makes it run smoother on pulls... Don't care about spikes per se, especially with the SHO's small turbos.  I am very happy with what the 3BAR did for my car.

Actually it's the opposite. The bigger range of pressure that the 3 bar is able to see means that you lose resolution. It's using a 0-5 volt signal to detect full vacuum to 28 or so psi. The stock sensor also uses a 0-5 volt signal but only to see a range of full vacuum to 15 psi or so.

But  there is enough resolution that it's not a problem.

What will the 3bar MAP do for improvement?  Do you get a lot of benefit by changing the thermostat?
Thanks,
Greg

Welcome Greg! The 3BAR will allow the ECM to use any boost above 14.7 psi in running the engine.  What I noticed most was a more incremental and smoother running car. You will have to have a tune to run the 3BAR.... Without the tune the car runs like crap if it even starts.
Most tuners recommend... Or require... The cooler T-stat for tuning to the highest performing tune.  It takes longer to heat soak with the cooler T-stat, but the real differences do not seem to exceed 10 degrees or less in routine driving.

Might want to put at least the make and model of you ride in your signature to get you the best answers.
Enjoy the forum.

when i return the car back to stock i know i have to put the 2 bar map back on. what about the 170 thermo? do you have to switch that out back to stock also or can i run the stock tune with the cooler thermo with no problems?

No worries with the thermostat.  Keep it in there.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I had the pleasure of running my car stock with the Reishe 170stat and plugs at 0.30 so many times visiting my dealer which is a 120 mile round trip with no issues at all, figure over ten times for warranty repairs and recalls, the cool part is my car sounds louder in stock mode, and you appreciate your tuners capabilities even more making it that much more a pleasurable experience.Z

For the price, you are better served with aftermarket brands like Amsoil or Royal Purple for the PTU fluid.  Key is still to check/change every 25-30k miles.
