Wheel Hub, OEM vs Timiken?
January 16, 2015, 01:11:56 PM
Time to replace the front wheel hub and I was about to stop by the dealer to purchase the OEM hub for $125 but then found a Timiken hub for $110, TIMKEN Part # HA590261.
Is one better than the other? I'd love to keep the car original thouhj if Timiken offers a better product I'm willing to swap both front hubs.

I had originally replaced my OEM tie rods with a Moog outer tie rod after the original failed, the Moog failed within 5k Miles so I wouldnt go near them personally.
As for Master Craft, sure it's not Motorcraft? I know that is Ford's OEM part label.

Timken is supposedly heavier duty than OEM. If you are paying OOP, go with Timken.

I would jump on the Timken brand in a heartbeat especially for the price,on my SHO they make a heavy duty version that costs more than the oem,the 13 SHO is infamous for the tick sound coming from the front end,and sometimes even with the updated M.Craft P.P hubs installed people are still having issues, but later resolved by installing the Timken heavy duty hubs.

Swear I thought I saw a Master (pro...or...craft) but can't find same link now. Also see there is a Centric option.
All the Timken hubs I see aren't labeled heavy duty.

Are they all heavy duty for the Timiken as in there is only one model or are there different models for our vehicle? I was about to head down to the dealer to pick up a outer tie rod and wheel hub though if the Timiken are better quality I will just wait and order those.

I remember looking for hub assembly's for our trailblazer, and Timken was the only one anybody would suggest. All others came with a warning of early failure from their forum.
This is Timken's bread and butter area too. I'm seeing the Timken for $118 and Motorcraft for $170. Making it hard to believe that the Timken is higher quality.
Decisions....decisions

TIMKEN Part # HA590261 (all 2010-12, 2013+ non-PP). TIMKEN Part # HA590478 (2013+ PP/PI front). Not sure if the PP parts will fit non-PP/prior years.

Thx for that ^^^^
It's crazy that half the sites I've searched don't even show if it's AWD or fwd. Just for the taurus. I will contact Timken directly tomorrow to get their "sales pitch" on these and exact part #'s.

The parts biz can be pretty opaque at times, just like real estate
Hopefully, you can extract the necessary info from Timken.

At least you dont have a PP SHO which the Timken is about 228.00 ea for it,and not to forget a 12 month warranty, ouch, which you also have to take into consideration, the Motorcraft warranty i believe is 3 years, correct me if im wrong.
