The air intake for the original filter box that funnels air towards your filter is blocked by the K & N heat shield, so no cool air from grille area is getting to your filter.

It's got a diverter that funnels air right to the cone.

The K&N shield has a scoop that works..even better with my homemade grill.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Great that it has a scoop/diverter.  Couldn't see it in pix.  Should work to keep IAT lower and heat sink down.

When I made my CAI with the RotoFab J pipe, I got free as they replaced both G8 J pipes due to some cracking, there were none available, other than Hennessey.  I have around $80. in mine.  Best part is it works better than it looks.  Not saying it adds HP, but intake air is cooler than stock.

Have had K & N systems on several cars.  Always happy with them.  Never any issues with oiled filters.

Went in pretty easy.  Not as loud as I remember.  Powerwise feels about the same.

Thanks!.... I see how the heat shield is in now.  How much of the hood rubber gasket did you remove?

Is the intake loud?  Like a shop vac under load?

Not even close.  Just a healthy whoosh noise.

You bet, Tom.  You'll see the mounting pins on each side with just the hole (pin removed) in the middle.
