Heading to the drag strip for the first time today.

I was going to head to Milan today and it is going to be my first time drag racing. I saw on their web site that you need a helmet if your car is faster than a certain time. (12.99 maybe?) Do they usually let you rent helmets? Also is there anything that is required to be done to my car before I go? Thanks.

Need a helmet for 13.99 and lower at most tracks.  So you'll need a helmet.  Most tracks rent them for like $10.

Wear shoes (not sandals), long sleeve shirt, and pants.  Some tracks are strict on clothing.

A lot of guys here race at Milan, so they'll chime in with better info soon!

Try to have car's gas tank at 1/4 to save weight.  Drop tire PSI down to 28 when you get at the track.

They do rent helmets at the tower. Think it's a $10 rental. I've been there 3 times this year and never needed one, but 2 of those visits were CAD events.

Right lane is quicker I think.
Avoid the water box.

You will use pit entrance to enter for racing.

After that straight ahead to be checked in and numbered (they will put custom whatever you want to SHOw up on your time slips).

They have air at the main bathrooms (white building in center of pits) to fill up before leaving. Bring own gauge.

Wish I could swing it today, but my list of must do's has spilled over the bucket top already with Halloween this weekend.

Good luck!

Pretty cool photo chance is parking right in front of the pit entrance little house where you pay to get in.

Horrible pic, but cool spot I think. Maybe I execute this better next time.

First thing would do is remove the engine cover,to lower the IAT temps,as you are probably aware turn traction control off,by holding down the button for five seconds with car in drive and foot on the brake, try to do some quick zig-zags in the parking lot to warm up the tires for better traction, keep us posted and good luck.

I'd call ahead today actually. Milan had to reschedule yesterday's events for today.

I made 2 runs and let my little brother and my cousin make 2 runs each. My cousin did the best at 12.74 108mph. I did 12.9 at 108mph so I was kinda disappointed but he is 80 pounds lighter than me. I would say the car definitely has a 12.5 in it as is. As soon as my warranty is up I'm going for the down pipes. What do you guys think a Livernois dyno tune will get for me? I talked to another SHO owner there who had an unleashed tune and he said he was running 16 pounds of boost but mine doesn't go much above 13.5, will the dyno tune get more boost?

Car won't see a 12.5 until you get a 3bar map and more than an off the shelf tune. 3bar sensor will allow for more boost.

Those would be great questions to ask them. Being on the dyno will give better info on where they can push the limits to. As I was told a crazy tune could be made but they wouldn't suggest it being used unless you're ready for a failure.

Good runs at Milan.

Was it pretty busy?

"Off the shelf tune"?

He has a Livernois tune right?

Yeah. Is livernois not still sending tunes without data logging? That's what I mean.

I have LMS tune, 3bar, and 160 tstat. When I talked to LMS they said they don't need to datalog because they have shop cars to do their testing on. They do make the tune custom to whatever strategy your car comes with from the factory.

It was crazy busy. I was at least half an hour between runs and an hour between 2 because a mustang hit the wall at about 1/5 mile.

Well I guess I qualify for the "off the shelf" 12.5.
