275 might be a tad big fo the 8.5 rim. most manufacturers recomend 9inch wheels. the middle of the tire might bulge and therfore not give you full contact with the road. in other words, less grip with big tire and small wheel. the better deal would be 265, but the tire selection is nonexistant in 20 inch and cost of one is through the roof. better would be 9 inch wheel with a 275 if one could fit one in there. keep your eyes on the contact area and see if middle is getting used a lot more versus the outside and inside/edges of a tire. please post up pics as they sit on car, i am very inteested in this topic.

that's amazing that you got a 295 wide tire to fit... with a 8.5 wide rim on top of that..
That's a feat on its own.
If the tire size is an issue why not try 295/35 series compared to a 40 ration.. The smaller diameter might be enough to fit inside the rear...
Now i am wondering if 305 wides are possible ..  :hmm:  .. with ha 10 inch wide rim of course.
2011 Taurus SHO... factory for now.

Info about sloppy sideways is completely accurate, crank up the psi and they will be much better.

I ran out of $$$ to try tires! They aren't happy about the 295/40s being returned!!

That's one way to close the wheel gap ;)

no issues at all with the tire size.. only issue is with the choice of tires.. the GMAX seem a bit hummish (thats now a word!) on the road and def to soft in the sidewalls for what I would of liked..

How does the GMAX's do in normal day to day driving?  Like over rough streets/potholes/speedbreakers?  I would think that's where they excel?  Any snow or ice yet to test them on?

The tread pattern on the gmax is pretty aggressive. And considering how wide the 275 is, there's a huge contact patch with the road.
I have the 255/45/20 gmax installed and have not noticed the humming yet. May I still need to put some more miles on them.
