Looks nice...i did wrap the intake piping with the stuff I had, doesn't look so hot (barely see it though) after a few that's for sure.

Yea the roll of reflectix tape I got was 25ft as well, smallest I could find. It's only like a 1/2 wide though so you'd be surprised how much you can use to cover it really well. That other pipe insulation is only like $2.50 for a 3 pack and you only need one. I ended up finding the foam I used at lowes because home depot  didn't have any (you're right that expanding one isn't sold in the US for whatever reason).

Instead of using the silver HVAC type insulation, I am going to line my Airaid box inside and out with Hushmat Ultra.  It's supposed to decrease heat transfer by at least 40% and its gloss black which will look a little better.  Also purchased the taller weatherstripping for an additional $10, hopefully it makes good contact with the MKS hood.

Huh, the smallest roll I could find is 16" wide by 25 feet, I figured it shouldn't take more than a few feet of that to line the inside of the box.

Oh you're looking for the actual insulation not just the tape. Yea they only have the big rolls that I saw also

You guys are going to a lot of work to make your aftermarket intake function like the stock one.

Don't hate me. Had to say it.

Not really, since these modifications have shown improvements over the stock air box. It's a small sample size and it's not by any means an ideal solution, but sometimes you gotta make chicken salad out of chicken s***.

So my Airaid is showing up on Thursday. Would anyone have any spare Reflectix/shielding or whatever you're using to upgrade the seal that you wouldn't mind parting with? I found the Reflectix on Home Depot's website but the smallest roll is 25 feet which I figure about 23 I'm gonna have no use for. The foam that Shoboat has listed in the how-to link doesn't seem to be available in the US which is kind of odd to me, but whatever, so I'm looking for that or the insulation that SHOnUup, looks like this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-in-x-6-ft-Foam-Pipe-Insulation-ORP11812/204760805?N=5yc1vZbuy9Z402 would do the trick for me?

Anyways, I figured I'd ask before I bought anything so let me know.
I also have some of the insulation left over you could use.

Rich

I appreciate that but unless the adhesive-backed ones are more expensive, I think it would cost more for you to mail it over to me than it would for me to just pick it up, plus those won't eat up as much spare space in my storage closet with whatever is left over, but thank you.

While I agree it is promising, the results are within the normal variances i see on track nights. (rip Kil-kare)

Gotta agree.... Put your ride on the dyno with stock intake and filter.... Then completely remove the filter and box from the intake "saxophone".... Mine showed no difference in performance in back to back pulls.... Doubt if others will..... But if you want eye candy and turbo spooling sound go for it!  .... But make the aesthetics good.

Happy to report that after lining the Airaid box with the HushMat and using the taller weatherstripping from Airaid I am seeing IATs only 4-10*F above ambient on my Livewire while cruising. While stopped temps climb quickly to about 90* but drop quickly once the car starts moving.

So I thought I would revisit this thread, as I have been thinking about my runs from last year. And why I was able to pick up a tenth from my personal best from last year.
Car is pretty much the same, weight was pretty much the same. 3/4 tank of gas, stereo was already in and still the same. The only real differences were tires, had F1 supercars vs the Michelin Pilot SS now and my modded Airaid intake VS the modded K&N Typhoon.

So on to the data.

May 10 best for that night was a 12.737, I have the slip for that one in my stack. Not sure on the specifics I do know that I had a really decent 60 at less than 1.85 (for F1 supercars lol).

Run Data

May 10th 2014

60        1.876
330      5.343
1/8      8.247
MPH     85.07
1000    10.734
1/4       12.834
MPH      108.59

From my runs last night a slip with a similar 60
60       1.860
330     5.263
1/8      8.119
MPH     86.65
1000    10.571
1/4      12.635
MPH     109.39

DA was right around 0 for last night. So again similar conditions to the May 10 2014 runs. I know what you are thinking, conditions, track prep blah blah blah. All I know is that she is faster than last year consistently. So a bit more Data to back up what some of us have already found out. What's not to like about Data he is pretty cool after all ;)
