Yeah, for sure. From the factory, I like that the SHO is quiet, but I can't understand why it is silent. It's damn near a travesty.

I seriously considered gesweks Darthtipped Corsas on OEM pipes but I spent too much time thinking, not enough buying.

Oh well....

Is that pretty subtle?

I keep thinking, I'd really like just a set of mufflers on the factory piping. In my opinion, alot of drone originates from increasing piping diameter.

My thoughts exactly on drone and pipe diameter.

So I won't have any videos, because I don't have a YouTube account and I won't have any links. I don't know if the forum can load from a phone video.

Thanks for the links. I've watched them all before. I was confused as to a Magnaflow crossover muffler and an x-pipe. I'm new at car stuff. I'm better with computers and software. I will probably never post a video. I spoke with the best exhaust place in my city, and got a really fair price, great craftsmanship and what they thought was great advice. It sounds amazing at higher RPMs, but the drone is just brutal. I think I'm going to run dual Vibrant performance resonators until next summer. Live and learn.

Looks like I'll be saving up for some dynomax mufflers. Hopefully just the dynomax rear mufflers will sound good with little to no drone

well..... after a bad night sleep, I woke up and decided to visit my local muffler shop and made a bad choice to remove the 2 rear mufflers...... sounds GREAT on the outside..... can't hear an elephant sneeze inside the cabin because of all the drone that I have magically created.  My wife said.... "wow.... sounds......good??"  If you are one to not care about drone.... then this is a sweet cheap mod to do.  If you are like me and like to have some attitude but still keep your peaceful interior sound, then run..... run as far away as you can from the muffler delete option..... now I have to figure out how to get it quieted back down, but still have some attitude.  My wife is going to be mad that I have to go and spend more money.  Whoops.....

You and I are in the same situation. That drone is head rattling. Is there really such a thing as a performance resonator? Would 2 more mufflers do anything for the drone? I'm open to all suggestions as I just ruined an MKS.

Ha,  others have done this mistake with the same crappy results. Those mufflers are there for a reason.   To do it right,  you need to spend $1300 on a corsa exhaust and $800 on catted down pipes.

I did it. Had it that way for an out 50 thousand miles.  I had an x pipe put in place of the third cat and I put two glasspacks right after the x pipe.  It sounded great! I put mufflers back in last week though cause I plan to trade the SHO for a new stang this fall and will get more for it from a dealer if it's quiet again...  it did drone a small amount at 1800 rpm, and was louder with more than one person in the car or when towing.  I loved it though and would do it again.

I can't believe you said that!  I did a full custom exhaust, am running a single dual 2.5"  in/out flowmaster and some strait thru resonators just upstream of the exhaust tips and I have had the drone(worst at 1900-2200 RPMS) for almost 20 K miles. All this time I thought I was imagining that it was WORSE when I had a carful of people?? :( By myself, no biggie but load up the Sport with 4-6 passengers and it's embarrassing :-  What causes this? Is it because the car sits lower, or the load on the motor is higher? Or?

I tried the muffler delete. The drone was ear rupturing. Then I put in a set of pypes m80 ' s. Still terrible drone. Finally had to make a tuned resonator to remove the drone. I can actually drive the car and not want to plug my ears.

I've heard about this Mod 3000 but I haven't seen it pulled off by anyone in the EB community til now, thank you for showing it! :thumb:

So many questions, where to start...   I have heard that several things affect how well its works, tube diameter, tube length, where you put it in the system(though where you have yours is where I had been considering putting mine), RPM's that the drone is the worst, etc etc etc.  THe exhaust guy who told me about this said there is a 'formula' for determining the things I listed based on engine displacement, what range of RPMS you want to quiet the drone, even exhaust gas temperatures.  Now it's possible he was making it sound overly complex because he wants me to pay him to build/install the resonator(I'm already into him $800. for my exhaust as he did the fabrication/install of the parts I sourced out) He also had mentioned that the resonator could even be a simple J shaped deadhead, that is, it doesn't even need to plumb back into the exhaust but that overall length would be critical for that kind of single inlet/no outlet, capped resonator.

Where did you get your information on size/length/location etc?  How much improvement do you feel it made, drone is 50% better, or like all gone?  Thanks in advance for anything else you can add, with 20K miles on my system now, it's way past time to deal with the drone :-[

Glad someone else finds my work useful. It isn't very complicated. The math us very simple. All you need is just a few of the variables then enter it in the formula. What I did was download an app that analyzes sound frequencies and found that my drone peaked at 118hz. So I used that in the formula I linked below. Just read threw the linked thread and it will tell you everything you need to know.

Since mine needed to be 30" long I had to loop it all the way around. It isn't very hard to fab the pipe. It's just time consuming since most shops can't bend a 180° into 2 1/2 pipe. I had to cut pipe into several pieces to make a 180.

Let me know if you need anything else!

I like Wasinger fix and my fix give you the best of both world. Stock quit for road trips with wife. And GREAT  attitude as my DD. I really think the X-pipe helps kill the drone down in my car. Oh it takes only 30 min to change them! Less if you are small enough to side under the car with out jacking it(I'm 240lb need the jack).

I went the "I've made a terrible mistake" route with the muffler delete and now chalk it up to a $1000 learning experience.  I added two "turbo" mufflers, whatever the hell those are, to where the stock rear mufflers were.  So now I have a Magnaflow Crossing Muffler in the middle and two "turbo" mufflers in the rear.  No resonator/s.

The results...

Honestly, it sounds pretty freaking good. This is how this car should sound from the factory. I'd prefer a little more noise, but it's a Lincoln, it shouldn't sound like a Mustang.  I can hear the turbos way more now too, which is pretty cool.  When I put a CAI on there (get your seal figured out AirAid), I'm guessing that the turbos will really whistle.  It's pretty subtle, with a little rumble where the drone was, and more of a "euro" sound.  I don't know what I'm giving back performance wise, but I will still be married tomorrow, so that is a plus.  I'll load some pics and video later.  If nothing else, I would have paid $300 for this no problem, so really it's only a $700 learning experience.
