Have you guys heard of this one? I've seen a few threads on PTU fluid changes and what not so I thought I'd post this.

TSB #ASI-44333
NHTSA ID #10054961
Date Announced DECEMBER 01 2013
Summary: FORD: DUE TO EXCESSIVE LUBE LOSS FROM PTU, OR INTERNAL PTU FAILURE, SOME TRUCKS, WILL EXPERIENCE CONTAMINATION OR SLUDGING OF PTU LUBE, RESULTING IN AN INCREASED INTERNAL LUBE TEMPERATURE. MODEL 2011-2014 EXPLORER, TAURUS SHO.
2015 Explorer Sport
2004 Explorer Sport Trac
2003 V-Rod - Black/Silver Anniversary Edition

What is the fix for this tsb?

13' GTCS, will be missed.

Thanks for sharing this...first I have heard of it.  I would hope that the fix is PTU replacement.

How would you get excessive lube loss without seeing it on the garage floor or smelling it burn on the exhaust system?  I would think most people would take the car in rather than just drive it until the remaining lube turned to sludge or internal failure occurred.  Maybe some were not properly filled from the factory or not properly filled after replacing a seal????

That's why I think mine was nearly empty. Just wasn't filled correctly.
13' SHO, Non-PP, Tuned by Torrie, Meth injection, 3 bar, 170* stat, custom axle back exhaust, Prosport Boost gauge.
15' F150 Lariat Sport, all the options, 3.5L Eco. (fiancée ride.)
13' GTCS, will be missed.

Reading about all these PTU issues makes me a little nervous..... I am currently at 56,000 miles on my 2011 non PP.... and I am thinking I need to take some time and dig into this "possible" issue.

I can't find any tsbs on ford tech page related to this. Do you have the actual ford tsb number. If ford issued it in dec of 13 it would start with 13.

I just found it. It's not a TSB it's a SSM, special service message.

So what are the actions that ford takes on this? Is it up to the dealership?

Excellent! Thank you!

Any idea where the PTU vent tube is at?

I'm gonna guess on top almost directly above drain, as I saw heated fluid on the side of mine when changing.

Can't find the vent tube. I'd really like to know where it is since the tsb says it could cause fluid to leak.
