Tuned Reliability

Since 2010 people have been modifying the latest SHO incarnation. From mild tunes to upgraded meth turbos.

So what has reliability been like since you got mods? Mileage/ time with mods? What problems / concerns have occurred or made you go back to stock?

I figure some would like to be aware of the 'risks.'

I have only been tuned for about 12,000 miles but you would have to hold a gun to my head to get me to go back to stock - and it would need to be a big gun.

ZERO problems, MASSIVE performance increase, mileage at least as good and probably a little better under highway cruising conditions.  Transmission behavior is far superior, too.  Idle quality and overall engine smoothness is improved.  My only mistake was not get the tune much sooner.

Been tuned in the SHO for 70K+ miles.

The Explorer about 15K.

No issues except going faster.

Thanks guys. I'm not to concerned with possible issues just like to know what I can expect. My last car, a Subaru Legacy GT Spec.b was heavily modified (300hp/340ftlbs at ground at 3000' elevation) and I had no real problems except a small coolant leak I fixed with a better clamp and the trannys stock clutch was starting to feel light after 3yrs of spirited driving weekends. ;)

I just like to plan ahead. ;)

Anyone else hear of any concerns?

Just get a tune for whatever octane your able to purchase 91 or 93.  Huge pickup versus stock.

I don't think any one has experienced reliability problems with the tunes from either Livernois or Unleashed Tuning...may get some if you get into the realm of custom tunes that push the envelope, but I think staying with the available tunes will do nothing but give you much more enjoyment.
