Transmission slipping or ....????

I'm experiencing a momentary low wheel torque condition. From a
complete stop I press on the accelerator peddle to say 20%, the car
will start to move forward and then it will jolt suddenly and then it
will accelerate as normal.

This was a some what random problem, (started after tuning) but it
has done it 5 times in the last two weeks. I could never tell if it
was a miss or a "gear" issue however after it did it to me tonight on
my way home from work, I stopped in my drive way, pressed on the gas it did it. I was able to watch the tack, as the rpm's came up from
idle, the car started to move forward but not as normal, as if
something was holding it back, or was slipping.  Then as the rpm's approached 2k, there was a sudden jolt and the car accelerated as normal. It felt as if the engine was not fully connected to the wheelslike I was slipping a clutch as if it were a manual and then I suddenly popped the clutch all the way out passing all of the engine's torque to the wheels.

I have returned the car to the stock program to see if I could
replicate the problem. So far no luck (only one hour drive time). I plan to leave it stock for a couple weeks to see if the problem happens again. In the back of my head, I'm thinking tranny....thoughts?

Our cars have an adaptive transmission. They learn driving style and habits and adjust accordingly. If this happened after loading a tune, I would give it some time to "relearn"  there was also another thread just started a few days ago that had a similar problem.  There is a tsb for a similar condition but I do not know the specifics.

Glock-oma is correct,It should learn pretty fast for this kind of thing,  BUT....Maybe the tune just loaded incorrectly... might try again.   Was traction control on or off (car controls).  If the same series of events occurs I'd have your tune checked for a problem with ECU info to traction control

You should really post this in the Unleashed vendor area so Torrie can see it.

You really should check to see if the transmission TSB was performed on your car, if I remember correctly this is a problem that was fairly common with the 2011's.

May need this TSB 11-12-10 applied.

Some 2009 Edge, MKX and Flex vehicles built on or after 5/4/2009, 2010-2011 Edge, Flex, MKS, MKT, MKX, Taurus and 2011 Explorer vehicles built on or before 4/15/2011 may have a sluggish acceleration or hesitation feel during a rolling stop 0-8 Km/h (0-5 MPH) followed by a harsh bump or feel like a slip on take-off from a stop followed by a harsh bump.

The fix is to service the valve body and recalibrate the transmission/PCM.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I have been running the tune for about two months, so it's definitely not an adaptive learning condition.

I have been in communication with Torrie, and as usual he has been very prompt and helpful. This isn't tune related (tsb...see below). I can't wait to put his tune back in though because going back to stock is horrible after I've been acclimated to all the extra power and torque....it's very hard to go back to stock....

I had forgotten all about that tsb. That's exactly what it's doing. I've call my dealer, and have a date on Monday to bring her in.

Your description is spot on for what my car used to do. My clunk was so bad (when it occurred) I thought someone rear ended me!  The TSB repair that involved a valve body replacement among other things made a huge difference. I can still on rare occasions get a tiny hint of symptoms if I flash a new tune and get the car into the re-learn mode, but a little drive time cures it. By all means have your dealer look into the TSB.

Well, my ford dealer is going to do the tsb. The problem is no parts warehouses have the new separater plate so they have no idea how long it's going to take to get the parts in. Guess I'll be sitting around waiting now. Sucks too, as the first open drag strip day is this Saturday. I was hoping to test out my tune and dp's. Guess I'll have to see what she'll do with just dp's.
