In regards to the question of whether or not upgraded rods and pistons are necessary for the 3.5L Ecoboost, here are a couple of photos of an engine that was sent to us for upgrading after suffering a failure. This was a rather high output engine with tune, turbos, etc. As the pictures show, there is a power limit to what the stock parts will handle before failure.

From examining the pistons, rings and bearings there are no signs of this failure being related to detonation or fuel. At power levels above 400WHP you start to get into a territory where the parts are near their outer limits, Beyond 450WHP you get into the territory where it's just a matter of when, not if, the stock rods and pistons will have a failure, because of this a piston and rod upgrade become practically a necessity in order to avoid eventual catastrophic engine failure. Again, while you could probably get away with running the stock bottom end near the 450WHP level, it's only a matter of time before the parts will catastrophically fail.

Once you did this big bore kit with pistons and rods... How streetable will the truck be????

Being a neophyte, I feel uniquely qualified to ask this question:  Can we use parts from the F150 for these boosted power levels, or do we really need a package similar to what Livernois offers?  Any comparisons between the OEM F150 parts and the LMS upgraded parts for the transverse engine?  TIA!

The F150 parts are only slightly better, definitely not worth the effort as they are barely an upgrade over the SHO.

Really, the streetability would have no change as we are only increasing CID.

This is the next great question as well. As these get pushed harder and harder there will be more weak links found. The likely answer is that it can handle more power than the engine, but that limit is unknown.

Sorry...
What is CID?

But increasing the CID would increase HP and TQ right?
At least a big bore on bike motor does?

It will. But not a ton if the comprestion ratio isnt changed or more boost isnt added.

Yes that is correct CID is Cubic Inch Displacement.

This is also correct.

Will you guys be doing this upgrade to your Xsport?
If so can you post dyno results or any other tech info on benefits of this package.( besides strengthening the motor)
Thx
