"How to" T Stat Install-DJE624

Lets get started!  You'll need a flat head screw driver and a 1/4" driver w/8mm long socket.  You'll also need a small cup or dish and a small towel to catch coolant.

Take off engine cover and disconnect the air temperature sensor on the air box tube by squeezing the electrical connector.  There is a post hook for the wire at the corner of the box that can be pried off.

Loosen clamp at back of flexible tube and open box top clips.  Condense flexible tube off of saxaphone tube and lift top of box up and towards passenger side, then up and out.

Remove two bolts at air scoop with 8mm socket.  Then, wiggle the box up and off of the nipples and pull up and out.

Now you'll have fairly easy access to the thermostat housing.

Note:  Inside of air intake tubing totally bone dry after running oiled filters for 7800 miles.

Remove two bolts holding thermostat housing with 8mm socket and with catch pan underneath, gently wiggle the housing out little by little.  The coolant will start to drain out and as the catch pan fills, you can push the housing back in to empty it.

Remove thermostat and replace with new.  Then place gasket.  For Riesche 170, use O-ring that comes with it.  For Livernois 160, re-use stock gasket.

When re installing top of air box, reach beneath flexible tube and slip on to the saxaphone pipe bottom first.  This will ensure you have a good seal all the way around.

Don't forget to plug the air temperature sensor back in!

When I finished, I filled the coolant res tank to the top of the cold mark.  You may have to add more coolant after burping the coolant system a few times.

Bonus!  Remove back hose on BOV for VTA.  I used a stubbie flat head as a lever against the clamp while carefully wiggling and turning the hose/clamp assembly to a position where I could get a pair of pliers on the clamp.  This has to be done slow and carefully because the hose is clamped on to a plastic pipe.

All of DJEs pic look this way since he left the forum.

Best thing to do for least amount of fluid loss is let the car sit overnight and started in the morning,we don't want to much fluid loss to hurt the environment.
