EBPF Newb; Ex Sport arriving soon. Thoughts on break-in?

Hey all, just found this forum and I'm wicked excited. Looks like a wealth of knowledge and info on just what I'm looking for.

My Explorer Sport should be here any day (pics to come), and I plan to install the Rx OCC once it becomes available...beyond that, what are your thoughts on break-in once it shows up? Run it hard with the stock (*synthetic?) oil, swap oil for conventional to better seat rings, etc??

I found this from Tracy @ Team Rx:
Mainly they are in the blow-by that all engines have, but in the past 10-15 years engines (except aircraft, etc. where safety is more important than inconvenience and ring seating is critical to safety) come prefilled with a synthetic blend or full synthetic. This oil is far to protective to allow the friction needed for the rings to seat, or wear in the the cylinder walls if driven per the owners manual (babied) so after 400-500 miles the cylinder walls will form a hard glaze that prevents any further seating and this brief window has passed. In the old days, engines came prefilled with break-in oil and this allowed enough friction to seat the rings in this short window, but it also required you drive very easy to prevent damage to bearings and journals, etc.  So now most drive esy during the first 100 miles and the rings never fully seat allowing excess blow-by and oil consumption.
So it is important to either drain the factory oil day one and fill with conventional to break in, or drive relatively hard (full accelerations and deceleration's are critical to produce side pressures needed to facilitate ring seating).

***just wondering some other thoughts of personal experience with this.
Thanks guys!!

Just drive it as if you've always had it. So romp on it, baby it mix it up. Just no long drives, you want various speeds and loads. And dump you oil at 3k.

Thanks for the welcome and the info, keep the testimonials coming!

Also, any recommendations for a good place to start with mods/upgrades? I've seen a couple posts mentioned about tstats, etc.

Welcome to the community, and congrats on your ride of choice!  After you have a few thousand miles on the XSport (to sort out any potential issues), first place to start is a tune (most commonly from Livernois or Unleashed).  There is a power/mod discussion thread (http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php?topic=808) that is fun to read thru, and you can also check out what owners like bigmoneycloser, QuickSilver, JeffsSport etc have done/plan to do.
2007 Ford Edge SEL, Powerstop F/R Brake Kit, TXT LED 6000K Lo & Hi Beams, W16W LED Reverse Bulbs, 3BSpec 2.5w Map Lights, 5W Cree rear dome lights, 5W Cree cargo light, DTBL LED Taillights

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Welcome to EBPF .... Run it hard occasionally , just make sure she's warmed up before you do so  and as crash said change oil and filter around 3000. I did mine at 2500.
Best bang for the buck ... tune 1st .... Also great for the grin factor.

If you have deep pockets look at Bigmoneycloser ' MOD list ..... One bad A★★ X Sport !
2013 SHO  ....  not mine anymore

Hahaha
Good advice.. I ran mine conservative with occasional hard pushes for first 1500 miles.
Then I changed oil to full syn and tuned.... It was all down hill from there...lol
When I started, I only wanted new wheels...look at me now..
Everyone here has great rides and advice, so you will find lots of info and plenty of upgrades..

Glad to have you here!

The advice already here is pretty consistent... and I agree with it!  Be sure it's a warm block before asking for much... then just have fun!
As far as changing the oil, my SHO told me I needed to change the oil at 1800 miles via the oil monitor system... Many things about the car are smarter than I am... The dealer changed it without question.

I gotta say Jimi, the Explorer Sport guys on this site are pretty excited about their cars ;) So you're in the right spot!  I went to Royal Purple Synthetic at 2000 miles and there are lots of theories on break in driving styles etc. However keep in mind, ring and cylinder metallurgy/surfacing technology has advanced just like everything else in this world so the old 'rough as a cobb' surface finish in the cylinders that was required to get the rings to seat is a thing of the past. Rings are much closer to seated right off the showroom floor than they were 25 years ago.

Thanks for all the great insight guys!

This might be a weird question, but this is my first Brand spankin' new vehicle...So I'm wondering what impact modding has on a factory warranty ???

Any mod you make will give Ford grounds for voiding your warranty.  It is a chance a lot of us have taken.

RX catch can ordered. Plus just got an email from ford saying my XSport has been "released" and is pending final shipping approval!

Woot! Ordered back in November...
