Mine takes a very long time to warm up and it doesn't get too toasty either. Is there something that needs to get fixed?

How warm does your heated seats get?

Thanks
Danny

They never get "burn you" hot, but they get pretty warm... depends on which heat setting I choose.

The basis of comparison I have is to my '13 Escape. & there is no comparison, the Escape will burn you if you turn it up to 4 for any length of time. On the SHO can stay at 3 or 4 all the time. Maybe has to do with the seats, the SHO's seat are so much thicker. Don't know only a guess. Good part of the SHO seats are the cooling, my Escape doesn't have that.

1. My Enclaves seats and prior GM vehicles will burn your butt.  The Lincoln's, not so much.  They do seem "weak".  I have tried other MKS/SHO/Taurus and felt the same way.
2. in crazy cold temps, they might never feel "hot" unless you have a very long drive - they take a bit to warm up.  -25 with windchill today here, not expecting them to feel "hot".

Mine are the same as these guys describe, they do get warm but take a bit of time.  I will run them on the medium setting and they do get warm but not really "hot". The cooling does seem to work better and they cool really well, but I've always kinda thought that maybe the cooling feels better because normally I'm wearing shorts when I use the cooling but am dressed with heavier long pants/clothes when using the heat.

^^ good points about clothing - but..... we all do have points of reference in other vehicles.  I have several times thought my cooling was not working right too when I am in a suit -  but then I ride in shorts and know it is working.  My GM cooling seats were weak though too.  Maybe I am expecting too much.

Wonder if it has something to do with the size of the item being heated ;-)

I put my heat on the lowest setting then turn it off as soon as I feel the seat warm up. If I left it on high my ass would sweat! I have the opposite problem. Seat doesn't get cool enough in summer.

You could check the filters in the seats to see if they need changed which could be blocking some of the air flow. Yes there are filters in both front seats.

Good point!... OM recommends doing that and cabin air filter every 30K miles.

I replaced my cabon air filter at 16K and it was filthy! I certainly would recommend changing much sooner.  Also I have not changed the seat filters, but when my seats were removed last summer for repair, the filters looked good not very dirty at that point.
@TSS, that was also my thought that maybe I expected more from the seats....but the seats in the Explorer feel warmer to me.  Just another wild thought, but maybe because the seats in the SHO are made from recycled plastic the heat has been dialed down a notch to prevent damage to the material...and even though the seats in the Lincoln are leather, they are probably given the same heat/cool mechanism as the SHO.
@Vortex69, I can't speak for others but my butt is large enough that it would catch and absorb all heat coming from any place in the seat...there's a reason my wetsuit says: "Don't Shoot I Am A Man"! :bootyshake:

I have checked my seat filters and they were fine, too.  The cabin filter DOES get dirty.  Our heated/cooled front seats are a different design than cars that have heated only seats.  The heated rear seat is the conventional kind that does get warmer.  My fronts get plenty warm but take longer to heat than cars with conventional heated seats.  Here is something I found when I researched this some time ago.  This is referencing a Lincoln Blackwood but ours use the same system.

The core of the system is a solid-state device called a Peltier circuit that is integrated into a miniature heat pump in each seat.

The Peltier circuit is named for the 19th-century French physicist Jean Charles Athanase Peltier who discovered the concept of thermoelectric reduction of temperature - that a positive electrical charge generates heat and a negative charge absorbs energy, producing a surface that is cold to the touch. The U.S. military uses Peltier devices to spot-cool heat-sensitive electronic devices.

The Peltier devices used in Blackwood are made of a high-tech sandwich of the metals Telluride and Bismuth. An electrical circuit switches polarity to either heat or cool the surface. The heat pumps, which are not much larger than a deck of playing cards, force heated or cooled air over the surfaces of the Peltier devices and to the seats through flexible ducts. The heated or cooled air exits through the perforations in the leather seating surfaces. The Peltier devices themselves have no moving parts, and the system uses no environmentally sensitive CFCs or other coolants. In operation, the system is very quiet - about 45 decibels - far quieter than the 65 decibels generated by a typical automotive air conditioning system.

dalum

I think mine uses a resistive mat for heating and the Peltier for cooling.  I can clearly hear the fan come on when on cooling but nothing for heating.

The fan should run when heating, too.  It should cycle off and on when heating but be on constantly when cooling.

DaSmurfy

When I turn the heated seats on, the fan comes on for a few seconds and goes off. Both front seats does that. Is this normal? Now, the cooling seats work just fine. The fans stays on and it feels nice and cool..
