In Case There Was Any Doubt......

I am continually amazed at the wonderment, as well as down right disbelief, when my car is on display at any given local car show, that people seem to find it difficult believing my SHO is truly a daily driver for me.

Well, at least for now.

I must admit, this car is a blast to drive in the snow. Yet alone on the track, or in any other given environment.

So here in Chi-Town, particularly in the West, and Southwest suburbs.....

We are literally on 18hrs of nonstop snow.

In the general Joliet area where I currently call home, we have had approximately 12" of the white stuff thus far. We are projected to receive an additional 6"-8" throughout today.

That will bring the grand total in my area since Friday, to a whopping range of 18"-20" of snow total.

After the storm pulls out, we are slated to receive the coldest temperatures ever recorded in our history.

Literal temperatures are slated to be between -15 to -18 tonight, with a whopping high temp tomorrow of -13.

Monday night will see an overnight low of -17 to -19.

Throughout this extreme cold snap, winds are supposed to be howling at a clip of 30-40MPH.

This will place the projected wind chills in the -40 to -50 range.

Whew! Dear God.

Anyhow, just finished up yet another long shift, and had to come home and unearth not only my entire driveway, but also the HUGE mountain of snow left at the end of my driveway, compliments of the local public works guys plowing.

No complaints at the above, just kind of spelling it out like it is.....

Needless to say, I quickly realized I'm not quite the spring chicken that I still somehow think I am, as I slipped and fell while shoveling, and my body is reminding me now, that as usual, I over did it.

Anyhow, here's a couple of shots of my SHO parked in the driveway.

At least the 1/2 I got to, before finally parking it in the garage and turning on the heater to melt off all that dastardly snow Mother Nature plastered all over her......

So just in case there was any ever doubt, let the above be definitive proof there of, that yes indeed, my SHO is a daily driven, reliable beast, even to this day.

So much fun driving this car, I can't even begin to convey my continued enjoyment from having purchased this vehicle.

Big kudos to Ford Motor Co. and all of the devoted men and women who helped create it.

Awesome stuff there maynard!

Why the heck do you have to shovel when you put that plow on the frontend?  Seriously, how much snow do you end up pushing with that?  It looks great but I'd be scared poopless that it would break off in this weather.  I hear all the clunks when I drive over the slush balls that fall off other cars and wonder if our cars being lowered are mere inches off the ground.

Great story Mike!  I hope you get a good rest today and are not too sore when you get up.

When I heard the weather forecast for Chicago I always think about you guys....seriously, I know what you mean about clearing the snow.  Honestly, I would seriously consider a snow blower/thrower...does make snow removal a much easier job.  However, I warn you I did have sticker shock when I went to purchase one several years ago.  However, purchasing a snow blower did 2 things, one it immediately cut down the amount of snow we've been receiving and it sure seems like we get a lot less accumulation, which makes getting the snow blower out, almost more work then just scrapping of the 1" of snow.  And second, it's a lot easier to get someone else in the family to volunteer to help remove the snow....

Cool insight Mike , Thanks for posting!

The storm sounds bad!  Impressively low temps, especially for the lake shore.. Ice will be next! I also hope you don't get any longstanding problems from the fall....   :black_eye: I noticed my age this morning after raking leaves yesterday  for 8 hours. :wheelchair:

The best part is the knowledge that we can mod to great extreme and still have a reliable, practical.... and SHOwy... DD! :thumb:

Thanks guys for all the kind replies.

Mark, I was just discussing with my wife, the inevitably of having to purchase a snow blower.

She said the same thing.... "watch, you buy one, & it won't snow for 10yrs".

Ha!

Just got done showering, off to bed after being awake for nearly 22hrs straight. Ugh.

Before I depart, here's a link to a local major media outlet:

Enjoy. I'm going to pass the F out.

Mike,

I just inherited a new snow blower. My current one I got from my father in law 3 years ago. It doesn't run perfect and won't work in this much snow, but it gets he job done most of the time. And hey, it was free. PM me if you are interested in taking it off my hands.

Rest up, Mike, and as for the blower, consider it cheap insurance :D  Safe travels, Dave.

It sucks driving my SHO threw the snow i just cringe. The stupid plastic skid plate keeps unclipping at the back im not even sure how it clips. i had already been to the dealership to reattach it. Also these wheels are awful at getting packed full of snow. Im so jealous you get to park in a garage. mine just is in deep freeze 24/7 :(.

I have an Ariens and it works great, it will bury itself in snow drifts without stalling out, I would purchase another.  Speaking of Chicago, I got a beginner RC helicopter for Christmas and it isn't working correctly, the elevator and rudder controls don't do anything and I believe it's a bad servo in the heli...anyway, my wife got it from Horizon Hobbies (located in Chicago) and when I called today to talk I got the recorded message: "Sorry, we are closed now due to the extreme weather conditions in Chicago!"  Can't say I blame them, hope you guys are all safe and be careful if you have to be out...we just had freezing rain, so ice skates would be the proper footwear to be out anywhere right now!

Thanks FracaSHO for the generous offer. Much appreciated.

But as my Wife and children remind me, I'm stubborn, and will likely hold out on any snow blower for the time being. The recent blizzard, and sub zero, arctic like, Siberian tundra that has become the landscape recently is not a common occurrence, so given "normal" snowfall events, I'm sure the shovel will continue performing adequately.

Speaking of storms and my general area.... States of Emergency have been declared in both Illinois and Indiana by their respective Governor's.

Major Expressways (80/94, & 65) along with other local and county roads have been closed to any and all traffic.

Only Emergency Service Personnel (Police, Fire, INdot, etc.) are to be out.

Not sure how the hell they'd enforce that honestly, but it goes without saying, the weather is incredibly dangerous.

Pretty much everyone I know is hunkering down and staying indoors.

Collectively, all of us are also hoping that power doesn't go out, as that can prove life threatening very quickly.

Although as I stated in my original post, I do absolutely love driving my SHO in the snow, currently, she's resting comfortably inside my semi-heated garage, all the snow melted off of her, and no plans to head out, unless work necessitates it.

Becareful for all of those this storm is affecting as it travels out towards the East Coast!

Mike, hoping you and the family stay safe, the cold weather is slated to be in our area tonight as our high is only to be around 3 degrees.  Luckily we are warm enough now that most of the ice and snow have melted off the roads, walks, and parking lots, so the extreme cold should not be compounded by ice.  Hoping you guys make it through this cold spell without incident.

^ Ditto!  I'd be worried about black ice and the mysterious appearance of potholes & "ice" main breaks at this point.  Home is best, if at all possible.
