jcl78, I think.

Hopefully whomever that tech is will see this post and chime in. Again, seems simple to just change a relay itself from manual trigger to always closed. If I had wiring diagram, I could probably figure it out myself. Anyone have a wiring diagram?

I could swear mine shows the gears in D once I hit the paddles. Not sure if they stay but will check and post when done work.

Mine will show the gears in D, but they disappear after a few seconds.

I think this might be a difference between the 10-12s and the 13+ since they have different a different dash display.  Mine is a 13 and shows the gears when in D and you hit the paddles.  Although it turns off showing them once you let off the gas for a little while and not shifting.

That sounds more of a software issue rather than as built data. And no it has nothing to do with triggering a relay. Everything is controlled by firmware and software these days.

2014 XSport, in D only shows Tach / fuel / temp. If I hit a paddle +/- it will show the number of the gear(s) I manually go in to, but it will only hold whichever gear I select until the ECU determines my selected gear is no longer needed / appropriate. Then "D" takes back over and shifts automatically...this is when the number disappears and returns to the normal display.

The only exception I've found to this is when I'm in Sand Mode and I upshift to a higher gear, since Sand Mode holds lower gears longer, and won't go past 5th on it's own, manually selecting 6th is an option. "6" will display for about 5-10 sec. then go away, even though the tx holds 6th gear.

Then if software, one of the tuners (LMS, Unleashed) would be able to set that as always on then? I presume and assume! Since there tunes control shift points etc, they might be able to access this feature. But if not software.............................? Then what?

I went through the service manual and owners manual. If I read things right the left side of the cluster is capable of displaying the current gear in the lower right of that display area when using select shift. Does anyone have a 13 model that actually does that?  They make it sound like it shows this all the time when in select shift mode ??

Thanks for chiming in, jmr.  Sorry I couldn't remember your handle correctly.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

When in 'S' and using the paddles it will show the current gear on a 13+.

I attached pics of the Base and Optional IPC as shown in the service manual.  On the Base IPC select shift gear is always displayed in section 24.  On the Optional IPC its in section 20.

I don't recall seeing this on mine?  Anyone else?

Additional from the service manual:
"The select shift display area indicates to the driver which gear is currently selected when the transmission is in the select shift mode. When the transmission is in select shift manual mode, the gear number is displayed in the select shift display area preceded by the letter M (example: M1, M2, M3 etc). "

Again this is for the 2013

I can vouch this works on the '11 model. But how or can we get it to display all the time is the question originally posted?

I understand what the original question is but I'm seeing if it even exists as the manual states first.

Does anyone have access to the full ford service manual for the 2010-2012?
